Kiyori's POV:
"Hey, Kiyori! Wake up! Did you forget about the meeting Tamura invited us to?"
I was abruptly awakened by loud knocking on my door this morning.
'Damn it! I didn't even get to eat the takoyaki in my dream yet!' I grumbled as I sat up from the couch, realizing that I had fallen asleep there after working overtime last night and feeling completely drained. That couch is comfy as hell. Even comfier than my own bed!
'Maybe I was just imagining it. After all, I was really really REALLY goddamn tired last night cause I had to finish all those documents or else that pesky manager of ours will deduct my salary!'
Seriously, I don't receive enough compensation for all the overtime I put into this job. Instead, my salary gets cut instead if I can't do it! Sooner or later, I'll have to take legal action against those higher-ups!
"Kiyori! WAKE. UP.!" I snapped out of my daze as I recognized the familiar voice and rushed to the door to prevent it from being destroyed.
"I'm up! I'm up!! Why would you wake me up so early, Saturo?" I said, irritated, as I opened the door to see the one and only, Mikami Saturo.
Saturo and I go way back since we were four years old. Our parents were friends, and they thought it would be good if we became friends too. Well, I can't really complain because Saturo is a great guy and easy to get along with. We've always been close, but sometimes his clinginess can be a bit overwhelming. We do pretty much everything together, and for some reason, he never wants to leave me alone. Honestly though, I appreciate his support, or else I'm not sure how well I would manage. People and their expectations, you know. They're not even my parents nor are they related to me in any way but they expect too much from me! I'm a simple human being you know! I can get tired! Sheesh! Anyways, right now, we're colleagues at the company we work for, and let me tell you, it's driving me crazy. Those awful black companies! Most importantly, that awful manager!!
"Kiyori! Were you even listening?" I snapped out of my daze once again as Saturo sighed and entered my apartment, taking off his shoes first, of course, before heading to the kitchen.
'Oh my God, I keep spacing out. I really need some caffeine in my system. Specially since this terrible headache is killing me!,' I thought to myself. Now, let me tell you kids, DO NOT EVER stay up so late or your head will suffer the consequences!
I followed him and watched as he took out two mugs from the cupboard. "Yes, of course, I heard you!" I nervously replied, trying to cover up the fact that I wasn't really paying attention.
"Uh huh. If you did, tell me the last thing I said," he teased, starting to prepare some coffee.
'He knows me so well. Ahhhh....I envy whoever he ends up marrying,' I thought to myself.
"You said, 'were you even listening'," I replied smugly, knowing that what I said had some truth to it, even though it wasn't the answer he was looking for. Heh. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
He facepalmed and sighed, then handed me a cup of freshly brewed coffee, to which I gave him a small thank you.
'Ah, it smells heavenly,' I thought as the aroma of caffeine reached my nose, causing me to sigh in contentment.
"As I was saying, what time did you get home last night? You look like a mess," he said, sipping his coffee while teasingly looking at me. I couldn't blame him; I truly looked disheveled.
Sighing, I took a sip of my own coffee and attempted to untangle the knot in my hair.
"Uhh, maybe around 3 am? I'm not entirely sure because I passed out as soon as I collapsed onto the couch," I said with a tired smile, feeling the exhaustion taking its toll. His mischievous expression quickly turned into one of concern.
"That late?! Are you sure you're okay?" he exclaimed, muttering something under his breath. I couldn't catch all of it, but it sounded like "damned company" or something.
'Can't blame him. Seriously, those awful black companies and the higher-ups who keep dumping unnecessary work on me! It's not even my responsibility!' I thought to myself. I really won't stop complaining about them cause they're the reason why I'm suffering this headache right now.
"Nah, I feel terrible, actually. Which is why the coffee you made is absolutely heavenly. You know, you'd make a great househusband, Saturo," I chuckled lightly, unaware of the blush that spread across his face.
"Hmm. Anyway, now that you're awake and have had your coffee, please tell me you remembered that we promised Tamura that we would meet today. He has something important to discuss with us," he said, trying to change the subject with his tone pleading. Hearing what he said, I choked on my coffee, suddenly remembering what he was talking about.
"Ah shit!" I exclaimed, trying to suppress the urge to cough. I quickly finished my coffee and handed Saturo the empty mug as I rushed to my room to get ready.
I heard his laughter echoing through the halls as he called out, "I'll wait outside, okay!"
One hour later....
"Haaa, sorry for the wait," I said, bowing my head apologetically to Saturo, who seemed to be in a trance as he looked at me.
"Saturooo," I waved my hand in front of him to snap him back to reality.
"Hm?" It seemed to do the trick, as his eyes began to regain clarity.
"Hmm, well, I did say sorry for the wait. Anyway, let's get going. We wouldn't want to keep our cute junior waiting, right?" I said with a mischievous smile as I started to walk ahead. That seemed to fully awaken him, as he started jogging to catch up with me and stopped by my side. I gave him a small smile as we continued to walk in silence.
