"I'll be back as soon as I can."

"Yes, do hurry. I'm anxious to get out of this body. And if you're hung up, call me. You know how impatient I get," Klaus told Maddox before closing the door. Behind him, Katherine stood there with a hot cup of coffee and offered it to him.

"Where is he going?"

"To retrieve me, so I can get out of this bad hairdo."

"Are you sure that's a good idea, Klaus?" Katherine asked, concern evident in her tone.

"Well, the full moon is almost here," he said, his voice straining as he placed the cup on the table. Then he took out the moonstone and set it aside. The moonstone he had desired for centuries.

His mother's final words about another curse echoed in his mind. The curse will take away any happiness he finds, right? He plans to break the curse tomorrow, though. He doesn't care about a ridiculous curse, which he doesn't know is real or not until now.

"I've killed the witch. I have the moonstone, and the doppelgänger is ready."

A red-like flame climbed up to his eyes, causing a sharp pain that made him rub them; this action had been happening frequently lately.

"I am ready to break this curse." Klaus's words rumbled out in a rough voice. The corners of his eyes were red-rimmed, a subtle change most wouldn't notice. Katherine's muscles tensed, a slight twitch revealing her unease.

"And why would you do that here? There are so many people who would try to stop you."

"Because I have to. It's the birthplace of the doppelgänger."

Katherine looked surprised, raising her eyebrows. "I didn't realize that was a requirement."

"Well, how could you know?" He advanced towards her, his movements purposeful. "You betrayed me and fled England before I could give you the details," his voice laced with a hint of anger.

"But I did find your birthplace and slaughter your family." She faltered, looking away with tears in her eyes. "So, I guess we're cool," he scoffed, his hand hovering near her hair before retracting.

"Let's just hope Elena isn't as stupid as you were."

"She won't run. She'll die before letting anyone she loves get hurt." Katherine said calmly, as if mocking.

"And that's exactly what I'm counting on." He grinned and left the cup for her. He looked straight into her warm brown eyes and compelled her. "You can't leave until I tell you to."

The door closed behind Klaus as he walked down the stairs.

He had mysteries to unravel on his own. The Salvatore brothers were the subject.

He knew Stefan quite well, but not Damon.

An unsettling feeling gnawed at him, a suspicion he couldn't quite grasp.

Jenna's sobs still echoed. They reverberated through the hallways. Elena walked to the front door. She stopped short under Damon's piercing stare.

"Where are you going?" He walked toward Elena, his serious tone startling her.

"I'm going back to Elijah," Elena said confidently. Her voice showed no fear. "Move, Damon."

"No." He cut her off, his grip tightening painfully on her arm. "If you even try to leave this house..."

"Damon, easy." Andie tried to reason with him, but he wouldn't listen this time.
