Klaus let out a loud exhale; his emotions had never been this bad. Even Greta was terrified when she saw his harsh glare. He had been looking forward to this day for a long time, but something inside him told him to stop.

He already had everything set for the ritual.

"The moon has reached its peak. Do you remember everything you have to do?" Greta extended her palm, and Klaus handed her the moonstone.

"I remember."

Greta started chanting, and sparks flew over the altar. The flames' vibrant red-orange hues danced with the breeze.

"Shall we?"

The ritual had begun.

--

The three women were imprisoned in a ring of fire. Jules's anguished moans were loud.

"Everything I did...I was just trying to help Tyler."

The fire that represented her life was extinguished. Klaus ripped out her heart and squeezed blood onto the moonstone, surrounded by flames.

Klaus wiped his hands and approached Jenna, who was sobbing with her niece. Stefan watched with a pained heart. Elijah had a way to help Elena, but she would lose another important person in her life.

Damon was still not returning his calls. A final goodbye message was sent out in case he died. He may offer himself as a sacrifice instead of Jenna. If the Elixir didn't work for Elena, at least he would die alongside her.

Just as he was about to disrupt the ritual, a familiar face appeared. Damon's footsteps were silent, and he carried a smile on his face. The fire ring around Jenna flared up again, preventing her escape.

"Aren't you going to come pick me up when the ritual starts?" Damon's voice, laced with scorn, was a stark contrast to Elena and her aunt's tears.

Stefan seized the opportunity, running with vampire speed. The crackling of flames was loud, yet he was careful, avoiding dry branches that could snap under his feet.

"Come on, Klaus." Damon laughed. "I'm offering myself as a sacrifice, but you just got Jenna? Alaric effect?"

"Damon, back off," Klaus's voice was low. Stefan heard a cracking sound from the wooden wedge in his palm, waiting for the right moment.

"You were careless in rushing tonight's ritual. If it doesn't work, you'll need a new Doppelgänger. Elena is the only remaining human in the Petrova lineage. Why don't you wait a year for Elena to have grandchildren first?"

"Tonight's ritual will work."

"You don't know," Damon replied, tilting his head. The smile remained. His hands were comfortably tucked into his pockets.

"Do you wish to die? I told you to back off." Klaus's bloodshot eyes locked onto Damon. His teeth clenched together like a dam holding back a flood of emotions.

"Would you believe me?" Damon and Klaus locked eyes. "I told you to use me."

"Why do you want to die this much!?"

Klaus walked away from Jenna's fire circle and approached Damon, who beamed at him. Stefan saw his chance and dashed towards the fire. Elena's tear-filled eyes widened in his direction, but a powerful supernatural force swept him away, sending him crashing against the massive stone platform. Fresh blood gushed forth. His ribs had punctured his lung.

Maddox, the witch he had spared, extended his arms and immobilized Stefan with a powerful spell, pinning him to the ground.

Stefan's vision blurred as the agony pressed on. He tried to tilt his face through the gravitational field. Klaus reached Damon, standing face-to-face. The flames made everything hazy.
