Chapter 10

Camila's pov

'No, she's not African but she's been to Africa.' A new day has arrived and Ken and I are already at school, passed lunch and we are in the backyard. I have started telling him about my lunch with Eileen.

'So, what's this woman's name that has got you so interested in places like Africa?' Ken asks but just as I am about to reply, Matt shows up looking as humble as ever.

Ken and I look at each other and back at him, Ken looks like he already knows what he has come to say.

'Hey, man. Mind if I borrow your car, hit a pole with mine yesterday. I'm just coming by the hospital for my session.' Matt says, and Ken silently hands him over his car keys.

Honestly, I wouldn't. This guy just told Ken that he hit a pole with his car yesterday and now he wants to borrow his? And what session is it that he has to go to during school hours.

'He has therapy sessions.' Ken says like he can see that I am lost and wondering in my mind.

'Why?' I hear myself asking.

'Because, Cammy...Matt has trauma problems and he becomes a completely different person. He has long history of beating his girlfriends because of it.' Ken varies.

My eyes shoot open. Long history of beating girlfriends. I quickly remove my feet away from his lap and onto the ground, and I sit up straight to cover my revealed boobs in my crop top.

'What do you mean he has a long history of beating his girlfriends?' I ask.

'You should go and check up on Bella before it's too late, she could barely talk properly yesterday. I wanted to tell you this early but got carried away by the whole lunch thing.' I quickly stand up and head to where I know I'll find Bella.

The basement of the school, where she usually sat when she had problems at home. I barge in already calling her name, 'Bella!' And the first sound I hear is sniffing. 'Cammy.' She shows up behind the shelves, her eyes soaking red and a punch mark on her face.

'I don't want my mom to see me like this.' She cries out and I quickly hug her.

'It's okay, I'm here now. Let's go, I'll take you to my place and then I'll take you home later.' I softly say, like this is not the person who has recently been making no time for me.

'No, I don't want to go home like this. My mom will ask me and my dad, he would be furious to see me like this.' She murmurs.

'Okay, then you'll sleep over.' I say.

I take her hand as we walk out of the basement and I take her to my car, Ken shows up behind me just as I've closed the passenger door for Bella. I sigh out loud as he opens his arms for me and I dive right into them, giving him a hug.

'I'll call you later.' I say, and he nods as he lays a kiss on my forehead.

'I love you.' I find myself saying while looking up at him, and it catches him unexpected as he even seems speechless.

'Look, we'll talk.' I continue as I get in the car and I take Bella to my home.

It's very unusual of her, being silent on the way until we've reached home. My mom gets shook when she sees me enter with Bella and take her to my room.

'Why?' That's the first thing I ask her.

'It just happened. I never thought he'd do it but he did.' Bella says.

'I don't want anything to do with him right now, I hate him.' She continues, crying off at the end.

'It's okay, lay down. I'll go get something to eat, in the meantime rest.' I insist.
