P.O.V Ayame
Emma explained everything to Don, who didn't seem surprised, shocked, or serious. Did he think it was a joke?
"Human trafficking?" asked Don, seemingly amused.
"Yes," we replied.
"Our siblings who arrived were all sold to evil people," Emma said, on the verge of tears.
Don briefly looked serious and shocked, but then laughed.
"Hahahahahahaha. Good joke, Emma," he laughed.
"But the wall and the gate... And our siblings didn't write us a single letter...," Norman said cautiously.
Don seemed to dismiss it all.
"I laughed well! And now it's already dissolving! How do you come up with such stories?" he asked.
Ray and I, meanwhile, sat on a bench, exchanging a monotonous glance.
Nobody mentioned us, but we felt the weight of the situation. Eventually, Don seemed to notice.
"You're not serious, are you?" he asked again.
"Yes," Ray and I said simultaneously.
"Wait a minute. And mother ?!" he asked, shocked. It seemed he was checking if it was a joke.
"She sells us... to bad people...," Emma hesitated.
"What? Our dear mother? How can you say something like that?!" he raised his voice.
Did he even listen?
"Take that back, Emma!" he demanded.
"Don...," said Gilda, her tone shifting. Don and Gilda were close.
"Emma loves our house and our mother so much. Why would she invent something like that? Besides... I sensed the seriousness when Conny left... Emma and Ayame were at the gate... They usually apologize if they break rules, but not this time... Emma was serious, just like Ayame, though she's often serious. And they listened to me less... Ayame and I don't do much together, but we still get along. Ayame has also been closer to Ray lately, though there could be other reasons. But the point is...," Gilda's voice faltered, ending in tears.
Emma rushed to her, and I disentangled from Ray's grasp as Emma and I embraced Gilda.
"Forgive us. Please forgive us! We didn't mean to frighten you," we pleaded.
"Did you see it, Emma, Ayame? How Conny was sold? To those evil people...," Gilda asked tearfully. Before we could respond, Norman intervened.
"Yes. But we were too late," he said.
"What about Conny? Is she safe?" Don asked, panicked.
"I don't know," he replied.
I returned to Ray's side, both of us bewildered. Was it right to lie to them? Ray seemed to share my sentiment, following the conversation closely.
"But... What does that mean?" Don asked, and Ray and I exchanged skeptical glances. I trusted them, but...
"I don't know if this is proof enough, but I've been reviewing test results with Ray, Ayame, and Emma lately," Norman calmly explained. It was true; we had received and reviewed those results.
"The test results?" asked Don and Gilda.
"They were sent from when we were six, only to those with low scores. Funny," Norman continued.
"True. Here are Conny's results... The same with Hao and Sadie!" Don exclaimed as he and Gilda examined the papers.
"You're right, Norman," Gilda agreed.
