🖤 Part 1 🖤

"Help me . . ." she croaked out, her throat parched.

The shadow in the doorframe was her only hope.

She squinted her eyes, as his beautiful chocolat brown orbs came to light.

"Pl..ea..se" she begged with all her might.

"Kaun ho tum ?" She heard a deep voice . . .before everything faded to black.

Saanj gasped, waking up. Sweat trickled down her temple, as she searched for the glass of water on the side table.

She could almost feel the way she had felt in that cell.

Desperate, tired, dehydrated, barely alive . . .

She closed her eyes, trying to bring her breathing back to normal.

No matter how much she tried, she couldn't forget. She felt like she'd forever need help, but was also told that it was okay. The kind of trauma she went through, it was a lot. She was very young and she knew that it will take time to heal.

She sighed, getting out of bed. Saanj was about to go freshen up, when she heard a tiny knock on her door. She smiled, erasing the bad memories. It was time to focus on the present.

"Aajao mere chote raja babu" she said, grinning from ear to ear.

The little mischievous boy instantly ran to his massi and jumped in her arms to give her the tightest hug, like he did every morning.

"Good morning massi !" he said, cutely.

"Good morning cutie !" she replied, peppering him with kisses.

He giggled, wiggling in her arms.

"Vinuuu !" Saanj heard.

"Lo, aapki mumma agayi ! Ab jaldi jaldi jao aur tayar hokar aao"

He shook his head, refusing to let go of her.

"Vinuuu, massi loves you and is not going anywhere baby. Please listen to mumma" she insisted.

He pouted, detaching himself from her. Saanj shook her head smiling and ruffled his hair lovingly.

"Nautanki" she muttered under her breath, when Sai walked in.

"Hmmmm . . .har subha massi ko tang karte ho ! Chalo aab..school bhi jana hai Vinu" she said, holding her hips.

Vinu gave her a naughty smile and ran out of the room.

Sai looked at him go, her mouth wide open.

"Bilkul apne baba par gaya hai" she held her head, before following him.

"Di . . ."

"Hmm" Sai said, turning around.

Saanj pondered. Should she tell her about the memory ?

She finally decided to not disturb Sai.

"Kuch nahin . . ."

Sai frowned. She silently asked her if she was okay.

Saanj smiled at her, reassuring her.

Sai had to go find Vinu, so she left, but in the back of her mind, she made a note to speak with Saanj.

***

Saanj paced in the hallway of her school. File in hands, she prayed that all would go well. After all, she was in law school and it wasn't supposed to be easy. She had decided from the moment she gained courage that she would fight for what's right. She was wronged by this system and so was her sister, but she would fight until her last breath for innocent people !

"Saanj, you're next !" She heard.

She took a deep breath, closing her eyes and wished herself good luck. A law firm was here to interview students and give them an internship, which could possibly become a job. Saanj was both nervous and excited. This was a big opportunity and she didn't want to blow it up.

***

Sai was eagerly waiting to know how the interview went. When the doorbell rang, she ran to open the door.

There she was, happier than ever. Sai instantly knew that the interview went well, not that she had any doubt. Her sister was brilliant and she deserved it all.

" I KNEW IT ! Accha gaya naa ?!"

Saanj nodded giddily, stepping in and jumping in her sister's arms.

Sai had tears of happiness in her eyes "I'm so proud of you"

Saanj teared up and said "It's all because of you and jiju di"

You guys were my support and I cannot thank you enough for it.

"Sshh ! Ye sab tumhari mehnat ka phal hai okay !"

"My baby sis is brilliant and now the whole city will know this !"

"Dii, the internship will start soon ! I'm so nervous !"

"Don't worry. Main hoon na ! I'll make sure everything goes smoothly" Sai said, holding Saanj's face lovingly.

Before they could weep further, Virat appeared out of nowhere and said "SURPRISE !"

Vinu was holding a cake in his hands, as Virat held a cute poster saying "Welcome future choti wakil sahiba"

"Congratulation massi ! You're the best"

Saanj melted a little and rushed to him, before getting on her knees and kissing his cheek.

"Thank you my partner in crime !"

Vinu took a piece and fed her the cake instantly.

She smiled and fed him too, knowing he was eager to get a taste.

Virat and Sai watched their son and Saanj lovingly and wished that one day she'd find someone and get a child of her own. She was so good with kids !

Virat went up to Saanj and hugged her "Congrats saali sahiba ! Aab to hum saath saath kam karenge" he said, winking at her.

She smiled and said "Of course jiju ! We make the best team !"

"Accha aab chalo, let's eat and celebrate" Sai said.

They all nodded and sat to enjoy their meal.

***

It was finally time to go to bed. Saanj watched her sister gently caress the head of her baby boy, as she held his sleeping form in her arms. Virat came from behind and lovingly embraced both his lifelines. She couldn't help watching their private family moment and craved a life like her di's. Saanj was happy that her sister found her soulmate and their love was completed by their child Vinu. They were meant to be and suddenly her mind wandered where she never wanted it to wander. Once upon a time, she thought she found the one. Until the betrayal cut so deep, she felt like her heart would shatter into a million pieces.

Saanj silently walked away, hiding in her room. She prayed that Virat, Sai and Vinu always stay the same way ! That no pain ever touched them, like it touched her.

She let the tears roll down her cheeks, as flashes of his ugly face came back to her. "He's a monster" she whispered out, reminding herself every day.

***

It was finally time for him to get released. He was able to pull a few strings because of his condition. Years felt like eternity in jail, but he accepted his penance.

"Salil . . ." he heard, before turning around and realizing there was no one. It was his subconscious mind, playing games with him. How could he forget her soft pukar ? She was fragile, yet so enchanting.

He closed his eyes and let out "Sa..n..j" in his gravelly voice, before walking out of what felt like hell . . .
