"I know you don't spend too much time outside of the Grove, but typically if someone doesn't answer their phone the first five times you call, there's a good chance they're busy." Rhys pesters me from his place on the couch, sprawled out like a king without a care in the world.

It's been just over a week since I discovered my mate at Sol's party. A week since I experienced the euphoria of feeling the heat of her skin beneath my fingertips, or the honey lemon taste of her lips on my tongue.

One kiss. She held my hands in hers, lifted up on her tiptoes, and kissed me. I pressed into her for more, greedy for every second she'd allow me. Then she thanked me for the dance and slipped away.

In hindsight I should have gotten her number...or even her name. But as my younger brother loves to point out, I don't get out into the human world much so the thought didn't occur to me until I was back home with my cock in my hand feverishly stroking myself to her faint scent that lingered on my clothes.

"I wouldn't have to call if you'd just nut up and teleport me like I asked you." I growl as I press call once again.

"Says the Alpha," he scoffs incredulously. He sits up and throws an arm over the back of the couch so he can twist his body to look at me, waving his video game controller around as he speaks. "There's no amount of money you could pay me, no favor so great, that I would ever show up unannounced in the home of an Alpha whose mate is in heat. Especially when you won't even tell me what's so fucking important that you need to disturb their little love-fest."

"I'm looking for someone." I don't offer any further explanation.

I've been looking for someone since the moment I realized how big I fucked up by not getting any information on her. The one upside was that Sol's party had a closed guest list. That narrowed my search to a few departments in the hospital and community members around Death Road borough.

But after a week of searching and obsessing, I'm still coming up empty. She's not from any of those places, which is why I need to get in touch with Sol. With how much they contribute to the hospital, I bet she could easily get me a name, address, and social security number within the hour.

The phone trills again in my ear whilst I continue pacing around allowing my wolf to express our impatience. We are very much aligned on our mission to find our mate again and I suspect that has to do with why he's been more pliant this past week. My lupine instincts are not at war with my human ones. It's a cell-deep harmony that I've never felt before. The more I embrace it and sink into it, the better it feels and the stronger I feel my wolf becoming.

My breath hitches when the ringing ends with a click rather than the usual voicemail message. "Hello Alpha," Eli's voice purrs teasingly through the phone's speaker immediately followed by the sound of Ace growling possessively and footsteps stomping louder with each step, "who the fuck are you calling Alpha? Who – Cole?"

"I need to speak to my sister," I say bluntly to Ace but it's Tate who shouts back from somewhere further away from Ace, "she's a little tied up at the moment."

That elicits some snickering in the background from Hunter and Dean who have yet to chime in with a witticism of their own.

"Ace," my wolf presses forward, conveying my command with just his name.
