I am the Howlite Facet 1G6U Cut 9MP, and for centuries I have served the Gem Empire with excellence. I delight in contributing to the greater good by aiding the growth and expansion of my race in my role as a howlite. My functions are similar to those of a sapphire, but I am called upon more frequently for less important occasions and rank below them because my vision of the future is not as precise or fluid. However, unlike sapphires, Howlites have enhanced cryokinesis, meaning we are more skilled with ice. I possess the foresight of a sapphire and control ice like a Snowflake. I know what I must do for the empire, and I am aware that if I am shattered, another will take my place; hence, I do not fret over the potential futures in which I am broken for any reason.
I was sent on a mission to Earth to ensure that nothing went wrong until the first phase of pre-colonization was completed. The future seemed certain, as in most possibilities, we completed our work without interruptions. And as anticipated, I encountered a native—he was quite... primitive (I admit, the Earthlings' communication system surprised me). He saw us working and asked what we were doing. And I replied:

– Do not worry, native, we are merely working"— I was not sure if he understood me.

And he continued:
– Why?

And I replied:
– Because your planet will soon serve a greater purpose.

And he asked again:
– Why?

And I, starting to lose my patience, replied:
– Because those were our orders, now go away. Shoo, shoo.

And he persisted:
– Why?

– Because our superiors want this planet colonized! - I answered.

– Why? - he asked again.

But this time, I had no answer... "Why were we colonizing?" "What was the reason for being there?" "Was that the only word in the Earthly vocabulary?" These were some of the thoughts running through my mind until my moment of reflection was interrupted when a Jasper scared off the native.

We continued with the preparations for pre-colonization when suddenly we heard a sweet yet commanding voice saying:
"Stop this colonization! Don't you see that you're destroying the life on this planet?!"
It was Rose Quartz, the leader of the rebellion, accompanied by her pearl. I had heard of them on Homeworld before, but I thought they were just a legend.

But the leader of our mission knew them very well and, obviously, did not accept their offer and ordered our "huge" escort of three Jaspers to take care of the rebels. The Jaspers fused and it seemed we were at an advantage over Rose Quartz and her pearl.

That's when we were mistaken... the pearl was incredibly skilled with swords unlike any other in any of the Homeworld colonies. As soon as she struck a precise blow on the fusion, causing it to split, Rose Quartz arrived and poofed one of them. Our advantage no longer seemed so pronounced. Then, even intimidated, the two Jaspers activated their weapons, a scythe and a sword. Despite the Jaspers being highly skilled elite warriors, they stood no chance against the perfect synchrony of the rebels and were poofed as well. Then, Hessonite, the leader of our mission, became infuriated with the failure of the three Jaspers and said:

– If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself! —in an arrogant and proud tone.

She then pulled her sword from her gem and faced the two rebels at once. Being an elite gem made for combat, she managed to give the rebels a hard time. But Rose Quartz decided to end the fight and activated her shield, with a charge, disarmed Hessonite. That's when the pearl arrived and delivered the final blow, poofing Hessonite.

As I stood in awe of the fight I had just witnessed, the Pearl turned to me and stared, at that moment I thought she would spare me no mercy, but Rose put her hand on her shoulder and said:
"Let's go... Let him take the gems back to Homeworld, so they won't attack again anytime soon."

And they left, but not before the pearl gave me one last look and analyzed me again as if to say with her eyes, "I would poof you right now if Rose wasn't here."
That was the first time I had contact with "freedom" and the rebellion. But why would a gem rebel? Our Empire is perfect! It is always expanding through colonization. Every gem knows this from the moment they emerge. But despite knowing all this, what made Rose rebel?...
