I stare at the mirror for a few seconds before sporadically trying to wiggle out of the dress. By the time I realized I wouldn't be able to take it off, I had fallen against the wall of the dressing room.
"Ow.." I rub the back of my head. There's a knock on the door.
"Are you okay?" Ash's voice comes from the other side of the door.
"Yeah. I just can get this goddamn dress off."
"Ah. I'll help." The door clicks open as Ash walks in. He closes the door behind him then grabs my hand and helps me up.
"Thanks." I turn my back to him and cross my arms over my chest. He quickly unzips the back of my dress. "Uhm... You can leave now." I say after he doesn't leave for a few seconds.
"Oh. Yeah." He turns and goes out the dressing room, leaving me alone.
I undress and change back into my original clothes. I put the dress back on the hanger and walk out of the dressing room. Well, sorta. I exit the dressing room only to run into a wall. Except it was a person rather than a wall.
"Sorry." I duck my head and quickly walk away for the wall person.
"It's cool. Wait. Sam?" I freeze and slowly turn around. The wall person is Ezra.
"Ezra? What the hell are you doing here?" He laughs awkwardly. I cross my arms, tightly holding the dress to my chest.
"I'd ask you the same question."
"You first."
"My sister's sweet sixteen. She dragged me with her. Says she needs some male advice or something like that."
"Oh. Wow." I look away awkwardly.
"So? Like the way you put it, what the hell are you doing here?"
"Uhm. I sorta have this performance thing tonight. It's no big deal really." I feel his eyes staring at me while I stare at the weird faux leather chair beside him.
"Performance? Like a concert?"
"I guess you could put it that way."
"That's amazing. When and where is it? I'd love to come." I look up at his smiling face, surprised by his enthusiasm.
"You don't have to."
"I want to silly." I blush lightly.
"Bluebird. Seven o'clock. I think."
"Okay. I'll see you there." He winks at me then turns away but stops for a second and says over his shoulder, "That dress is so your color by the way."
"Thanks." And we part ways.
I walk to the counter where Colson and Ash are standing. I set the dress next to the cash register.
"Ready?" Colson says as the cashier rings up the dress.
"I think so. I might need some shoes though. I have a feeling that black isn't the best color for tonight."
"Sorry to interrupt but I think we have the perfect shoes to go with this." The cashier says very shyly. Her name tag says Celina
"No. It's perfectly fine. I suck at fashion and matching anyway." She laughs nervously.
"Second aisle, fourth section, bottom shelf. There should be a peachy, leather type heel there. They'll go perfectly." Ash follows her instructions and grabs the shoes in my size then brings them back to the register.
"Awesome. Thank you. I probably would have ended up staring at shoes for an hour without you."
"That is complete truth. There's times that I find her staring at her full closet like a lost puppy 'cause she has no idea what to wear." Ash says. We all laugh.
