Chapter Two: Puppet
Li Hao did not hasten to open the email but instead entered the machine room and settled into the cockpit, the automatic door sealing shut behind him.
"Bleem Mission 127: Six months, 3000 EMP points."
Most would dismiss such an email as spam and delete it without a second thought, attributing it to either a madman or someone who had forgotten their medication.
Li Hao, however, seemed unconcerned, more intrigued by the email itself. When he attempted to retrieve it for a closer look, just like before, it had vanished from his Tianxin account—not deleted, but disappeared without leaving a trace.
Li Hao didn't know whether the sender was human, a ghost, or some other supernatural entity. All he knew was that it went by the code name: bleem.
The first encounter with Bleem had been on the night of his fifth birthday, when something controlled his dreams, transporting him to indescribable worlds for bizarre training sessions. The most severe episode had left him in a coma for a month, clinging to life in a hospital that could find no cause for his condition. The orphanage was even notified to prepare for the worst. Yet, he miraculously recovered upon waking, healthier than ever, save for a circular scar near his heart. If not for the director's intervention, the hospital would have eagerly studied him.
For over a decade, Li Hao had grown accustomed to Bleem's presence, which seemed to train him with a specific purpose but bore him no ill will. He speculated about its intentions, initially suspecting it was some evil force from a TV show using him for experiments. However, as he grew older, he dismissed this theory since Bleem's capabilities surpassed any technology he knew of, and he, a mere orphan, held no value that justified such elaborate schemes.
Everything changed when he turned twelve, and the director gifted him a Tianxin device. That's when he received his first "Bleem Mission." The tasks ranged from the mundane, like finding a lost pet, to the extreme, like assassination—fortunately, the targets seemed deserving of their fates.
In general, his relationship with Bleem was peaceful. Once, Li Hao tested the waters by deliberately failing a mission, which led to a heart attack. Upon recovery, he received a message providing a clue: "Complete Mission 200, and you will receive your answers. Fail again, and you will be erased."
Erased... As if.
Despite the risks, Li Hao's growing strength allowed him to repeatedly test the boundaries of his failures, eventually gaining some control over the situation. The frequency and urgency of the Bleem Missions subsequently decreased.
Mission 126, a year ago, had directed him to enroll at Tianjing Military Academy, which, compared to his life before the academy, was relatively calm and uneventful.
Upon awakening, Li Hao took a deep breath, a slight smile playing on his lips. After a period of silence, Bleem had become active again, and he was ready.
