The next day, you and Mikasa continued with the next phase of the gear training. Swooping past each other at great speeds, you took our your blade and sliced the nape of a 'Titan', which was a life-sized replica of an actual Titan.

Shadis wrote down notes as the two of you continued, other cadets seeing at how you two did it so flawlessly. However, Shadis did point out you wasted a lot more gas than Mikasa so you looked to Jean for some helpful tips.

You went back towards the balance area, and saw that Eren was about to start his session again. You walked to him, and saw as the machine slowly pulled him. As Eren balanced himself, Mikasa stood right next to you.

"Yes! I did it!" Eren yelled.

"Woah..." You said.

"Nice, Eren." Reiner clapped for him, for he had been the one who helped Eren control himself the night before and the other cadets were stunned as well, but all laughed once Eren fell forward.

"Wait!" Shadis began. "(L/N), check his gear!"

Listening to Shadis, you headed behind Eren who groaned as he put a hand on his head. You widened your eyes to see that the gear was faulty. With Shadis' orders, you took off your own gear and handed to Eren who got back up.

"Thanks." Eren said.

"Faulty gear." You reported to Shadis.

Eren started his balance training again as Mikasa widened her eyes. Eren put his fists in the air and exclaimed as the others awed at his balance. Eren kept his cool and gave Mikasa a look of pure joy as he widened his smile.

"I can fight the Titans!" Eren thought.

Eren ended up joining you and Mikasa in the next training drill. Eren had fun with the ODM gear as he did a casual flip while detaching his wires and summoned them again to zoom past you. You chuckled before getting past him yourself, both of you eyeing each other as rivals.

After a few weeks of ODM training, Shadis put the results up. Jean ended up having the best scores and you had the third best after Mikasa. The following week was hand to hand combat, and you were paired up with Sasha.

"Why do we need this...?" Sasha eyed her wooden dagger with confusion as you two stopped for a minute. "I don't get it. If we are going to fight Titans, why do we need this training?"

"Most of us here are headed to the Garrison." You looked at the others as they grunted and swung their daggers. "Since the Garrison Regiment watch the Districts, that would mean they confront more people than actual Titans."

"I guess that makes sense." Sasha said.

"Woah—!"

You both looked to see Eren twisted on the floor. You saw as Annie got back up, dusting herself off. As Eren yelled at Reiner, Annie put her own fists back up and proceeded to dust Reiner. You were amazed as Annie walked off.

"Damn, she's good...!" Sasha said.

"Yeah. I wouldn't want to fight her." You said.

The two of you continued then switched partners after a 30 minute interval. You dusted the other cadets and put them on the ground with ease as your dagger neared their neck. People noticed this and you eventually got paired up with Annie.

"I don't need this." Annie said and tossed her dagger as she put her fists up and you flipped your dagger so it was faced downwards. "I heard you weren't a total idiot, so give me a good fight."

It didn't end well for you, but Annie was satisfied with the overall battle. Annie ended up lifting you up afterwards, showing her own respect in a way. The cadets spread rumors about the two of you dating but they stopped after a few weeks.
