At the age of fourteen, Omilami reentered the acting scene with an appearance on the television show Small Wonder in 1988. This marked her return to the screen after overcoming her initial shyness. Soon after, in June of the same year, she landed a role in Disney Channel's series Good Morning, Miss Bliss, where she portrayed the character Lisa Turtle. This role laid the foundation for her future success in the industry.
Omilami's breakthrough came when she secured the role of Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey on the NBC sitcom The Facts of Life, which aired from 1979 to 1988. Her portrayal of Tootie endeared her to audiences, and her catchphrase "We're in troouu-ble!" became iconic.
