GOOD LUCK, BABE!
VOLUME I: DOUBLE FAULT.
003 — BackhandTHAT WAS A WRAP FOR DAY ONE, AND SHE MADE IT TO DAY TWO WITH one more match before finals—and she knew that she was getting to the finals. Only one of the many matches she had seemed to be a challenge for her, but only one. Emma was doing very well. Now, it was time for the men to play their matches. As a true tennis lover, she planned to stick around, and her son desperately wanted to see Art Donaldson play. Miller was wise beyond his years for being a six-year-old. He knew the exact players that were his favorite, and why. She wondered why him, though? When there were much greater players like... Roger Federer. But, it wasn't her job to question her son's innocent interests. Miller liked Art, and Emma had to suck it up.
He certainly wasn't a bad player.
Emma and her coach found a small restaurant in the club to grab some food for her, Miller and Declan. "If you keep playing like that... This might be another Grand Slam year for you. The passion is still there."
"The passion never left, Christian." She chortled, drinking from her freshly filled water bottled.
"In tennis it hasn't— and I'm glad."
The bag of food was handed to her by a waiter, as her features contorted at the comment. It wasn't a look of offense, but more confusion. He was alluding to her relationship with Declan—that it was the passion that was lost between them. If he thought that it would lead to her losing interest in her career, he was wrong. One day, she'll let it go and probably turn to coaching and Declan's foundation full-time—but it would never be a thorough disconnect. Christian was right, though, when it came to her ex-husband. Declan was her friend, if not her lover, and the father of her child... Emma could never just let him go. So she was going to do her best and give their relationship another try. Whatever that meant. "We agreed to give it another go. For Miller." Emma muttered, peeking into the bag.
"You're far too young to be holding yourself to a loveless marriage, Emma. You and Declan are a wonderful team, just not in the way you're used to." He paused, eyeing the woman. Christian has known her since her early twenties—a lot has changed since then. "I miss seeing that beautiful smile of yours— on and off the court."
She weakly smiled, chewing on the inside of her mouth. Her relationship with Declan was stressful in ways, but she didn't think it was so visible on her. At this rate, it truly was Miller keeping them together. How pitiful.
