They all piled into the car quickly. Jorge jumped into the driver’s seat, starting the engine before pulling out of the garage. The sound of gunshots echoed in the distance. They glanced behind them as Wicked guards began following in their own van. Thea pulled out her gun and leaned out the window, firing at them.

"Here!" Jorge shouted. She leaned back in as Jorge handed her a much bigger gun. He opened the sunroof, and she stood up, facing the truck, resuming her fire. The bullets tore through the engine, and smoke began pouring out from under the hood.

Thea ducked back into the car just as the van behind them exploded into flames. "Well, that did some damage," she said with a laugh, turning to face the front like everyone else.

The older girl and boy appeared to be about seven years old now, while the younger girl—Lizzie, as she was called—seemed to be around five.

The older girl held Lizzie around the waist with one hand and the boy’s hand with the other. They walked inside the house, and the girl locked the door behind them.

Humming came from the kitchen, interspersed with light giggles. Lizzie was handed to the boy, and he took her down the hallway toward her room.

The girl walked into the kitchen, where their mother stood with her back turned. "Mom?"

Their mother stopped humming and froze, her back still facing the girl. "Mom... everything okay?"

She walked closer, her hand reaching for a drawer by the fridge. "Mom, please... speak to me."

"It's your fault he's dead," the woman said, her voice low as she began moving again, still not facing her. "You're the reason your father is dead."

"No, mom, please. Please don’t do this. Not again." A small sob escaped her lips.

"You’re going to pay for this. This time, I won’t forgive you." A sick giggle bubbled from her mother’s throat as she turned around. Her mouth was dripping with black goo, and dark veins were creeping around her eyes.

"No." Another sob slipped from her mouth as she lunged for the drawer, desperately searching through it. "Looking for this?" The woman giggled again, holding up a gun.

"Trying to kill your dear mama, just like your papa?" she mocked, tossing the gun out the window. Glass shattered in all directions.

The girl tried to run, but the woman tackled her to the floor. She kicked the woman in the stomach, temporarily knocking her off. She scrambled away, gasping for air.

In the doorway, Lizzie stood, frozen. "Lizzie! Go to your room!" The girl shouted. Lizzie nodded, terrified, and ran off.

Seeing Lizzie in the doorway froze her, and that was enough for the woman to grab the girl’s ankle, pulling her back toward her. The girl screamed, clawing at the floor, but it was no use.

The woman flipped her over, pinning her by the shoulders as she thrashed her legs. The woman dug her knees into the girl’s thighs, holding her down with terrifying force. The girl cried out in pain, her head thrashing side to side, searching for help.

Just then, the front door crashed open, and several people in black suits with armor and guns rushed in, surrounding them.

Before anyone could react, one of the men shot at the woman. She spat up blood that splattered on the girl’s chest before collapsing to the side.

The girl scrambled to her feet, recoiling from the woman. She pushed past one of the guards. "Move!" she shouted, but they stayed in place. "Move! I need to get to my brother and sister!"
