Day 1

Snowflakes gracefully descended from the heavens, delicately alighting upon every inch of the landscape. The skeletal trees stood as silent witnesses to the wintry scene, while a chorus of complaints filled the air, echoing the frustration of those burdened by the weight of icy snow on their driveways.

"Hyunjin, give me back my jacket this instant! I'll freeze out there, you jerk!," Yejl's voice pierced the cold air as she dashed out of the house, ill-prepared with only two layers to shield her from the biting chill.

"You snooze, you lose!" Hyunjin's laughter carried on the wind as he darted away, seizing the passing bus and jeering "loser!" from the window.

Yeji's groan was lost in the frigid air as she clenched her fists, the biting cold seeping into her skin, turning her cheeks an even deeper shade of crimson.

Blinded by frustration, Yeji paced the front yard for what felt like an eternity before the
realization dawned upon her-she was meant to catch the same bus as her brother.

Standing frozen in disbelief, anger surged through her veins as she unleashed a torrent of curses upon the world.

-

"Hwang Yeji, I'm profoundly disappointed in your tardiness," the teacher's disapproving tone rang out as Yeji stumbled into class, her face verging on blue from the cold. If only he knew.

Ignoring the admonishment, Yeji slumped into her seat, shivering uncontrollably, teeth chattering in symphony. One would think the school could spare some warmth for those enduring the harsh elements outside.

'Damn you, Hyunjin," Yeji cursed inwardly, wrapping her arms around herself in a futile attempt to ward off the chill.

"Do you need a jacket? I have a spare," a voice interrupted her thoughts.

Yeji didn't need to turn to identify the speaker. The grating voice belonged to Shin Ryujin, a constant thorn in her side since childhood. It seemed Ryujin's sole purpose in life was to sour Yeji's mood. From a mischievous prank in third grade to every subsequent annoyance, Ryujin was a perpetual nuisance.

Still trembling, Yeji longed to refuse, to tell Ryujin to mind her own business. But the prospect of succumbing to the bitter cold outside outweighed her disdain for her classmate. Narrowing her eyes at Ryujin, she reluctantly reached out for the offered jacket, skepticism etched on her face.

Ryujin lifted the jacket with a smirk, a warning sign that Yeji chose to ignore in her desperation.

Before Yeji could grasp it, Ryujin's words cut through the air like a knife. "Fix your own problems, loser," she sneered, donning the jacket and failing miserably to stifle a laugh.

Of course.

Day 4

As the snow settled into a gentle flurry, Yeji seized the chance to take a leisurely stroll through the park, her favorite tunes echoing in her ears.

Anticipating the chill, she wrapped herself in a cozy jacket, warding off the winter's bite.

Observing the delicate dance of snowflakes, the laughter of children sculpting snow angels, and the spirited snowball skirmishes among teenagers, Yeji couldn't help but feel a twinge of warmth in her chest. Yet, that warmth was swiftly extinguished by the sight of someone who seemed to suck all joy from her surroundings.

There, on a bench, sat Ryujin, sporting a bruise that marred her otherwise pristine appearance. It was a sight that filled Yeji with a mix of concern and, if she were being honest, a hint of satisfaction. Perhaps Ryujin had deserved that mark.
