When Severus was turning 2 his mother got ill and his father worked the whole time he was awake. So they decided to give him to his aunt Eileen Snape neé Prince and her husband Tobias Snape.

Severus' POV
When I turned four my uncle made clear I wasn't wanted. He forced me to live at the loft where not even a 10 year old can stand. It has holes in the walls, were birds build their nests.
But honestly it was the only good thing there. The birds always sang for him when he couldn't walk after a beating.

The years went on and the older I got the more chores I got. So when I got nine I could barely do the chores anymore. Every time I could not do the chores I was beated black and blue. Sometimes I got beated with Tobias belt, sometimes I got starved.
It depended on how much of these chores are left.
So when my birthday came near I got an odd letter from a school named Hogwarts. My aunt Eileen thaught me at that point everything of the wizarding world. All about thestrals, Goblins, unicorns and everything else.
She told me how to get to the train and who is high and who is low in society.
