My Freshman Year

Chapter 22

I walk to school because I wasn't in a mood of dealing with Austin. I reach there and open the gate for Ryan to greet me there
We walk together to class
"So , we are now official?" He asks
"Guess so"
I lean on his shoulder. When we reach Scarlette and her group, we made sure to hold hands, which made her frustrated

we hold hands the rest of the walk to class until we bump into Roger. He looks at our laced hands and moves in his way .we enter the chemistry lab to start the lesson. Scarlette keeps trying to get Ryan's attention by asking him how to mix the chemicals and how much to put in. he just ignores her because he figured out what was going on.

"Ryan ?" She bats her eyes
"What now ?" He asks, sounding annoyed
"I think I poured liquid nitrogen instead of hydrogen peroxide " she says , in a childish voice
He turns his head in my direction and i give him a number 1 with my fingers. When we were friends, we created number codes for chemistry just to make things easier . 1 stood for water. He poured water in the tube and backed up quickly, it exploded in her face ! I was laughing so hard until the teacher gave both of us detention . She looked in shock and anger since she doesn't want us together. She did the unexpected. She spilled vinegar on the teacher!

"Ms. Johnson"
"Yes Mr Scott?"
"Detention"
" aw, dang it !" She says moving her fist from waist to waist.
"Class dismissed" says the teacher

Once we were out she was glaring at us with an evil smirk
"Todaloo" she says moving her fingers at us.

Finally, last period, which is gym. I get dressed and tie my hair in a high ponytail and go to my locker to grab the homework and put in in my bag .

I run to the gymnasium as fast as my legs could carry me and stand in the last hoping the teacher hasn't noticed me being late . Luckily, it has worked.
We finished the lesson and i just ran until I remembered i got detention with Scarlette
I ran back inside and went to the classroom where detention was held

"Ms White !" Oh god , did it have to be Ms Emma ?
"Yes?"
"You are staying here 30 extra minutes for being late to detention "

I just want to scream! If an hour isn't enough, i have to stay ANOTHER half hour

1:30 hours of my life are wasted.
I spent a whole hour staring at Ryan while Scarlette makes annoying sounds
After the 1 hour passes , both of them leave and i stay there getting bored out of my mind

"What'd you do to get in detention?" She asks , confused.
"Laughing in chemistry?" I say
"Wow , these people sure are strict here"
"Don't act innocent, you are one of them" i say , leaning back on the chair

" okay, i've had enough with this"
"What do you mean?" I ask
"Look , you know when you were looking at me suspiciously throughout the semester?"
I nod my head
"Be right back" she says, exiting the classroom
"Ugh" i groan loudly out of boredom. I grab my homework and start doing it so i have the rest on my day free.
Ms. Emma returns in a few minutes dressed completely in black with the 'REBEL' hat
"Nice acting" i say, sarcastically at her acting to look cool . I go back to my homework
"Excuse me ?"
"I said , nice acting. I know you trying to look cool"
"I'm not acting , i'm an actual rebel"

"Hmm, speak street language" i ask , trying to get proof.
Surprisingly, she spoke fluently the street language
"Wow, i can't wait to tell everyone about our rebellious teacher
"You can't tell anyone about this, got it ?" She says, putting a finger on my lips, shushing me. I nod in agreement she lets me leave early, which i am grateful for. I run home like there is no tomorrow.

When i was there, i could hear Muffin barking and scratching the door. I open the door and she bolts about barking for me to follow her . I drop my bag and run with her. Thanks to my constant walking, i could faster and longer now , which is very helpful in this situation. She is taking me to the hospital. Why? I am there where the nurse outside stops Muffin from coming in . She starts barking loudly but I silence her .
"Isn't there like a doggy pen or something here?" I ask , desperate to get in quicker
"Yes there is, but you have to pay 10 pounds to get a tag for your dog"
I give her 10 pounds I found in my jeans pocket. The nurse takes her away and she whimpers
"I will be back soon" I whisper to her. And she just starts walking faster with a smile

I go inside to find my mother pacing back and forth in the administration
"Mom!" I yell
"Oh honey you are finally here!" She comes , tears streaming down her face and hugs me tightly.

Ths nurse calls her and i follow her . Once we are at the door , the nurse stops me
"Family only" she tells me
"I am family, i am her daughter " i say, pointing at my mother
She leta me pass and go in the room
I am inside the room to find Austin Lying there with blood pumping into him
"What happened?" I ask shivering
"He cut a major artey in his wrist" my mother tells me , hugging me
"How much did he lose?"
"About 1 liter"
"Oh my god" i say, starting to cry
I go run to his bed ond hold his hand
"Austin, please talk to me" i say, crying
"Please, Austin, Please"
I cry even more
"I know we sometimes fight, and they get pretty heated , but in the end, i love it when you hold me near you and comfort me after a few moments from slamming doors and screams" i say , rubbing his hand

"If I could just hear you call me Blueberry once more" i say , sniffing my and wiping my tears away
"Calm down , blueberry," he says, weakly , but loud enough for me to hear him.
My frown suddenly turns to a smile once he talked to me
"And i love you ,Jenniefer" he says , opening his eyes to me
"Me too, big guy"
He smiles and opens his eyes completely to me.

The doctor comes in with a clipboard
"Austin White, we have given you a metal substitute artery since your original one was damaged beyond heal"
"When can he leave ?" My mother says, standing up
"If he is capable of standing, he could depart now , we gave him the required amount of blood and his heart is pumping regularly now"

Austin rises from the bed and he is disconnected from the machine and given a plaster. My mother asks me about the way i got here

" i heard Muffin barking loudly so I opened the door and she ran out and I followed her all the way here"

"Wait, so you mean that dog brought you here?" asks Austin .
I nod at him
I go to collect Muffin and she jumps in happiness when she sees me and i carry her . We walk home since we didn't have Austin's car with us, since they went in an ambulance. Muffin gets tired from walking so Austin volunteers to carry her. She starts to rub her head against him the same way she did when I first carried her. We reach home and I open the foor and go in, grabbing my bag upstairs with me. I do the rest of the homework and go downstairs and sit with Austin
"Why did we fight anyway ?"
"Because you never told me what was wrong with you "
"Like when?" He asks
"Asking about our father"
"Some jerk insulted me and accused me and said my father never liked me"
I mouth an 'O' at him
"What about ignoring me in the car ?"
"A drunk woman thought i was her boyfriend and kissed me, so i was stuck with that thought in my head"
I nod
Muffin comes with a smile and sat on Austin's lap and rolled up in a ball
"What about being annoyed before yesterday?"
"It was because you just had your first kiss, you are growing up, and i felt you were slipping through my fingers and that you will leave me one day, so I became depressed, and started cutting " he says, and i wipe away a bead of tear thats rolled on his cheek.
" even if i was 99 I would still come up to you in the middle of the night because of a bad dream"i say, getting a short laugh from him
"Oh the way you make me laugh, Jennie " he says , hugging me
"Dinner!" Yells my mother from the kitchen
I go and eat dinner and go upstairs and slip into pajamas and watch television with Muffin until i fall asleep.
