It was time for health class, one of my least favorite classes of the day. There was this girl there. We partnered up for a lot of projects and she was pretty nice. She had the coolest hair. It was purple and had a bunch of different colors in it that would take too long to name. In class we changed seats and we decided to sit together. The next day, she came to class with a sheet of paper. It had a whole bunch of doodles on it, and one of them was LGBTQ+. I had sort of suspected that she was queer, but I didn't want to ask in case she was homophobic. I didn't want to randomly start asking are you gay? Samsies! I decided to take a different approach.
" I like your drawing." I said, I pointed to it. She blushed a little bit.
" Thanks." A moment of silence
" Are you gay?" Rats! Come on, why did I say it? She smiled.
" Yeah, you too?" I breathed a sigh of relif.
" Yup!" I said confidently. Over the next few weeks, we began talking and find out we had a lot in common. We both liked Harry Potter, we both like Ms. Marvel, we both had a dog. After about a week, she passed me a note, asking for my phone number. No one had ever asked for my phone number this way. I wrote it down, and as soon as I passed it back to her, my stomach was overrun with butterflies. We began texting. And the rest was history.
