CHAPTER SEVEN

The next day, Kunle is in Leventis's company, sewing. All his employees are busy with one machine or the other. As customers stream in, some come to drop off their clothes while others come to pick their clothes up. Ade sewed a dress with one of his students assisting him. Some of the people are employed while some are students who are only there to learn and leave. Christabel assisted him while the other students were with different employees and his wife.
"Christabel red thread please," Kunle said but didn't see the thread forthcoming, he looked at her and saw she was just quiet, lost in thought. "Christabel!" He called surprised and she jerked into reality, she looked at him.
"Sir?" she said confused.
"I asked for red thread," Kunle said.
"Okay sir, sorry sir" She went to bring the red thread as Kunle looked at her noticing how divided her attention was. He continued the work as she stayed beside him, as an apprentice.
"Are you okay?" he asked without turning to face her but still sewing and focusing on the machine.
"Sir?"
"I said are you okay?"
"I'm fine sir," she said hastily.
"Okay, bring the red cloth I asked you to keep yesterday"
"Okay, sir!" She leaves and comes back after a long time with a black cloth.
"Sir, was it the black cloth you said?"
Kunle looks at her.
"Christabel come!" She comes to him.
"Sorry sir," she said tensed.
"No problem, it's just obvious to me that you are not paying attention, you're one of my serious students here so I know you well to know that you are not okay, what is the matter?" He asked concerned.
"I'm fine sir" she lied but her eyes betrayed her by becoming watery.
"Sit," Kunle said and She sat beside him.
"you know you can talk to me, I've made myself as simple as I can for you all to know I'm not just your tutor but a friend, what is the matter?" Kunle asked and She started to cry. he waited patiently knowing she'll speak. She wiped her face because other people were around.
"My fiancée ended things with me," she said.
"Why?" Kunle asked surprised. He had seen him a couple of times come to visit her.
"After a year of dating, he said he finally saw that I wasn't right for him and he has found someone else," she said and Kunle felt offended.
"Christabel if he said you're not right for him then he is not also right for you, the person who would love, appreciate you, and find you befitting to be his wife will come" Kunlesaid.
"But I love him," she said hurt "I've grown so fond of him, I don't know why Daniel chose to do this to me, he always told me he loved me, what happened?" she said with watery eyes. "what happened to the beautiful thing we had? Why did he do this to me?" she said as she wept.
Kunle looked at her not knowing what to tell her.
"I know just how you feel but don't worry, the right man will come, okay?" Kunle said and She nodded sadly.
"Okay sir"
"You're a beautiful and hardworking God-fearing young lady with a promising future, there's no sensible man that wouldn't want you for a wife, don't cry because of someone who doesn't know your worth. Look no matter how you tell a baby that gold is valuable, he wouldn't still value it because he is a child; in life, not everyone will know your worth" Kunle said and She nodded.
"Thank you sir," she said.
"It is well with you and God heals your heart in Jesus Name"
"Amen," she responded.
"Now let's get to work"
"Okay sir"
Kunle continued sewing as she watched him just then Anita brought his phone to him, it was ringing but stopped when she got to him.
"Daddy your phone has been ringing"
"I only charged it a few minutes ago because the battery was low" He looks at the screen and sees ten missed calls, he tries to call back but the person calls again, so he picks.
"Hello Daddy!" she cries
"Sister, calm down, okay? What is the matter?" Kunle asked concerned.
"Is my husband oh pastor? My enemies have poured pepper inside my eyes, they have taken my crown oh daddy. My enemies have defeated me" she said with tears.
"God forbid! Don't say such words, don't you have God? Are you lifting up Satan?" Kunle asked angrily.
"No, Daddy is just that how can my husband go around town as a madman?" she asked.
"What happened to your husband?" Kunle asked.
"Yesterday it started like a joke and people said maybe he was drunk or something" she explained.
"This morning he continued and I called my husband brothers and they tied him and we took him to the hospital. After the test the doctor said he had a mental problem, they said my husband is mad oh! How can I tell my children their father has become a madman?"
"Listen that case is not too difficult for God to handle, we serve a God that does the impossible, do you believe the doctor's report or God's report?"
"God oh!" she said crying. "I believe God's report and that is why I'm calling you sir"
"Just tell your husband's brothers and you all bring him to the church, I'll meet you there"
"Okay, Daddy!" She hangs up and Kunle stands up.
"Anita you'll continue this dress, the owner will come for it tomorrow, the woman Lucy brought, sewed it very well, we're still trying to impress her with our work. Where's my wife?"
"She's sewing downstairs" Anita answered.
"Okay, Christabel Anita will put you through, okay?"
"Yes sir
"Be lenient with her" Kunle tells Anita and she chuckled.
"Yes daddy"
Kunle hurried downstairs where he saw his wife in one machine, she observed the haste he came to her in.
"There's an emergency in church, if I can't come here again, we'll meet at home"
"Okay sir, go well" Kunle leaves the store and gets into his car, and he zooms off.


Kunle reached the church in less than an hour, he parked his car at the car lot and entered the church, he met the woman, two of her husband's brothers, and the mad man tied on the floor as he misbehaved on the floor, he observed him and all of them. The woman is crying. He went to the alter to pray a short prayer and looked at them, their eyes fixed on him.
"Lose him and bring him," Kunle said.
"Lose who?" one of the man's brother asked as he chuckled in ridicule. "Sir I don't think you know how dangerous he is and what it took us to get him tied up"
"I said lose him and bring him," Kunle said with authority and the two men looked at one another.
"Sir I suggest you pray for him with the chains, he can hurt you," the second man said calmly, not as rude as the first.
"Lose him and bring him," Kunle said firmly.
"Lose him and take him to him please," the madman's wife said crying; the men looked at her and Kunle for a while before removing the chains from the man. Kunle looked at the man as he looked at him too.
"Come!" Kunle commanded him and he walked to him as the people looked at him in awe.
"My God!" The first man said surprised at how his mad brother obeyed Kunle. He went to him and stood in front of the altar. Kunle prayed for him and anointed him as he responded. His wife and brothers came close.
"Joshua!" The second man called and the previous madman turned to him.
"Yes"
His wife jumped up and came to hug him
"Honey!"
"Yes, what happened? What happened to me, how did we come here, why did we come?" he asked surprised, the woman kneeled on the altar as she cried and thanked God. His brothers look at him and Kunle in an unbelievable way. The woman stood on her feet.
"Pastor thank you, Thank you, sir," she said
"Only thank God, He's the One that healed him," Kunle said.
She looks at her husband who is still confused
"Honey the enemies wanted to take you away from us and bring shame to me but our God stood strong" she explained.
"How?" he asked still confused.
"You went insane, the doctor even confirmed that you were mad," she said.
"God forbid!" he said.
"Yes oh," She said and looked at Kunle.
"Indeed this is God's report sir, the doctor's report was disregarded by God," she said and Ade nodded.
The two young men still looked in awe not believing it because they had never seen such before.

The next morning Kunle was asleep on his bed when his phone started to ring, he picks the phone and saw that the time was 5:00 am. His mother is calling him, why is she calling him so early? He wondered as he picked up the call.
"Hello mummy, ecaro ma!" he said.
"Ecaro my pastor," she said and He smiled.
"How are you? I hope all is well?" he asked.
"All is well" she replied.
"So why did you call this early?"
"I know God must have wished you first so I wanted to be the second person to wish you a happy birthday," she said and Kunle smiled as he thought of the date.
"Or did you forget? Don't tell me you did?" she said and he smiled.
" I did, thank you ma"
"My son, my great star. Adekunle you may be a well-known man of God now but for me, you're still my precious gift. I still remember when the doctor gave you to me at a time like this thirty-seven years ago. Oh! That faithful morning" she said and He smiled. "Now that tiny baby that was given me that morning is now a man, a great man that has even given me grandchildren," she said and He chuckled. "I miss taking care of you my son. You might be a man now but to me, you're still my baby, Ade"
He chuckled.
"May God grant your earnest desire, my son, and may that thing you want from him be given you. May He establish your life and ministry, may He make your marriage as honey and bless your children in Jesus' Name"
"Amen, thank you ma!"
"I love you son."
"I love you too ma"
There's silence for a while
"Take care and try to come around with the whole family, okay? I just want us to dine together as one happy family" she said. He smiled
"Okay ma, we'll come"
"Okay, son. Take care of yourself"
"You too mum"
"Okay," She hangs up.
"So it's already April 11th? Time flies" He got out of bed and went to his prayer room to pray.
When the day dawns, Sholaye wakes up, she doesn't meet Ade on the bed, she gets out of bed and goes to the bathroom, then comes out after a while, she goes to the sitting room and sees Ade and the children, he was just telling them some bible stories. She looks at the time, it's 7:15 am and they are already late for school.
"Good morning sir!" she greeted and He turned hearing her voice.
"Good morning!" Ade answered.
"Good morning mummy!" the children greeted.
"Morning, you all need to get ready for school now, you're already late"
"Today is Saturday mummy," Tobi said.
She thinks and Ade looks at her hoping she'll remember the date too.
"That's true my dear son, I didn't even know" She smiled.
"Mummy Daddy says that we'll go to grandma's house," Tope said.
"Really?" She looks at Ade surprised.
"what time?" she asked him.
"Any moment from now, we'll just stop by the company to get things in order and then we'll go"
"Alright, but if you told me earlier I would have prepared more," she said.
"She only told me this morning that we should come," he said.
"I hope all is well?" she asked surprised. Her mother-in-law doesn't always send for them. There must be a reason.
"Yes, she just wants us to dine together as one family," Ade said.
"Oh!" she said surprised.
"Nice, let me get the children ready"
"Okay, let's have morning devotion first, we didn't want to wake you up," Ade said.
"Alright" she sat with them and they did the morning devotion together.
After the devotion they got ready and after about an hour everyone sat in the dining to have breakfast Afterwards the children ran off to watch cartoons, leaving only their parents in the dining.
"Daddy Tobi will not put it in Disney," Damilola says Frowning.
" This cartoon is interesting," Tobi tells her.
"Daddy!" Damilola calls.
"Put it in Disney for her," Tope tells Tobi.
"Damilola watch this one, it's interesting," Tobi tells her.
"No!" she said Almost crying.
"Tobi, will you put what she wants for her?" Ade said and Tobi frowned and put the station in Disney.
"Dear, I want to ask something," Sholaye said.
"What is that?" Ade asked.
"Is all well, mummy doesn't normally call for us to dine as a family?" she asked and Ade nodded.
"All is well, she did because it's my birthday, she wanted to celebrate it with all of us," he said and Sholaye looked at him stunned.
"It's your birthday?" She asked and he nods shyly.
"She called me early this morning, I didn't even remember, she reminded me," Ade said.
"I even also forgot, wow, happy birthday," she said and he smiled.
"Thank you"
"I'm supposed to go earlier to her place and assist in whatever preparation that she's making for us. Cooking enough food for all of us may be exhausting to her, I should go and help" Sholaye said.
"Mummy is a caterer, she loves cooking" Ade answered.
"Still, I can't just go there like Queen Elizabeth to eat, it doesn't look well," she said and Ade chuckled. "It's true, even if your mother is ready to serve you in Yoruba land wisdom demands you don't let her. I need to go there and assist her in whatever way I can before you all come" She continued.
"But we all are ready, aren't we?" Ade asked.
"You said we'll stop by the company, why don't I just go straight from here to her house, and then you can check things with the company" she suggested.
"Alright, but you'll go with the children and tell her I'll meet you all there," Ade said.
"Okay," Sholaye agree.

After a short while they came out of the house and Ade went to his car while Sholaye took the children to hers.
"Mummy, where is daddy going?" Tope asked.
"He'll meet us at grandma's place" Sholaye answered him.
"I want to go with him," Tope said.
"Tope I said he'll come, stay there," Sholaye said.
"I want to go with my daddy," he said Frowning.
"Tope since you want to cry without a cause I will give you one" Sholaye tells him.

Ade meets them in the car prepared. Sholaye wined the glass down seeing him approach.
"I don't think this car is fueled" He gives her some money from his wallet. "Buy Fuel," he said.
"Okay, Thank you, sir," Sholaye said.
"Drive carefully," Ade tells her and she smiles and nods.
"Daddy!" Tope calls.
"Yes son" Ade answered.
"I want to follow you," he said and Ade smiled.
"Okay, come let's go"
Tope smiled as he happily came down from the car.
"You're happy now," Sholaye said and Tope smiled and stood beside his father.
"Daddy me too," Tobi said.
"Tobi stay there, your mum can't go alone with Damilola, you're the only man there," Ade tells him and Sholaye chuckles.
"Alright go well," Ade tells her, she nods and drives out of the compound.
"Alright Tope let's go"
"Okay, daddy." They went to his car and Ade drove out of the compound. The security man locked the door.


"Daddy" Tope called Ade as he drove.
"Yes son"
"When will Victory come back?" He asked and Ade stayed quiet. Last week Victory's father just called and said he didn't want his son working for Ade again. Ade sensed that he must have discovered spiritually that the young boy had found Christ. He did everything he could to prevent the man from taking the child, even offering to double the pay but the man bluntly refused. All Ade did was to encourage the young lad to hold onto his faith, he bought many gospel books for him along with some other bible versions different from the King James version he had before. It was so hard to say goodbye but they had to. He even tried to call Victory with the phone he bought for him but it has been switched off. He called the father to ask why Victory's phone was switched off and if he was well. He said he is well and when he wants to communicate with Victory he should call him. The man was indeed bent on cutting Victory off from Ade. Ade knows he is a traditionalist, but his son has chosen another path. He prays God strengthens Victory to overcome whatever he may be forced to face for his faith.
"Daddy, will Victory not come back again" Tope asked as Ade drove inside his company, he parked his car in the car lot and looked at Tope.
"He may not come back and live with us again but I believe you will see him again," Ade tells him.
"When daddy?" Tope asked.
"I don't know Tope, let's get out of the car" They came out of the car and went inside the company. Ade climbs upstairs, to where his office is as Tope follows him. Immediately he stepped into the store he saw a big banner with "Happy Birthday Daddy" written boldly on it.
"Surprise!" Everyone said and Ade looked at them surprised as he saw the small cake they baked for him.
"Daddy you need to blow your candles," Wealth said and Ade noticed Anita standing in front of him with the cake and candles on it.
"Oh!" He puts himself together. "Okay" He blows out the candles and they all start to sing him a birthday song. Ade looked at all his employees and students surprised. How did they know today was his birthday? Why will they do all this for him? Why? He watched their happy faces and how some customers just watched smiling at the events. Tracy one of his customers came to him.
"Happy birthday sir," she said and Ade smiled.
"Thank you ma"
"Things like this are simply proof of the impact one has made in the lives of others. No one will do all this for someone they've never gained a thing from" she said and He nodded. "I've taken my dress, I'll leave now," she said.
"Okay ma, Thank you," Ade said and she nodded and left
Ade focused on his employees who were still standing, making jokes and laughing.
"I don't know what words to thank you all with, this means so much to me. How did you know it was my birthday?" He asked and they laughed.
"Anita told us," Wealth said and Ade looked at her, she's his oldest employee.
"Anita!"
"Daddy you deserve it and more," she said and he smiled.
"Thank you very much you all, I'm grateful. I need to host you all" he said and They laughed happily. Just as they celebrate Maria comes in, and she sees the whole celebration and cake. She observed everything for a while and went to Ade.
"Happy birthday sir!" Maria said.
"Thank you, you came for your dress right?" Ade asked and She nodded.
"It's ready. Anita!" Ade calls and She comes.
"Bring her clothes," he tells her and she went to bring it. Maria collects it and leaves.

Ade's employees got back to their work as more customers kept coming to wish him a happy birthday.
After a while of arranging some things in the store, Ade leaves with Tope to his mother's place. After cutting the cake the workers gave him for himself, his wife, and his children and they distributed the rest amongst themselves and some customers that wanted. Tope ate the cake in the car while Ade drove. In a short, while they reached his mother's house, and Tope came down with the cake he was given and the one for the family, he walked to his granny's place as Ade walked behind him. Ade rings the bell.
"It must be him, check!" Ayo says.
"Okay, ma!" Sholaye went to the door while Ayo continued arranging the dining. She baked a cake for Ade. Sholaye opens the door and Ade comes inside.
"Welcome sir!" Sholaye said.
"Thank you," Ade said as he came in.
"Ecaro ma!" Tope greets his mother.
"Ecaro" Sholaye said and just saw the cake in his hands.
"where did you get cake from" she asked.
"Daddy's birthday," he said, and She looks at Ade confused.
"They made a surprise for me at the store," he said.
Wow!" She said and Ade went to his mother he hugged her.
" Ecaro ma!"
"My son" She smiles "Happy birthday Ade!".
"Thank you, mummy"
"Please Sit!" Ayo said and he sat.
"Sholaye come, let's eat, bring the children," Ayo tells her.
Sholaye comes with the children and they pray and dine together, making jokes and laughing, Ade cuts the cake and they enjoy each other's company with Ayo using her camera to capture every event. They enjoyed the moment.

Night of the same day, Ade lay on his bed as he thought of the whole celebration, so many people made the day very special for him. He thinks of his workers and how they put together such a big surprise for him. He thinks of all the preparations his mother made for him. He feels so thankful to all of them. They showed him how much he meant to all of them. He looked at his wife who was fast asleep beside him. Only her forgot, he should be used to Sholaye not ascribing importance to things like this but sometimes he wished she was like his mother, who never allowed any moment just pass. Even as a child he watched his mother always prepare for his birthday, it was his big day to her, and even when he didn't want his birthday his mother still didn't miss celebrating it for him. He appreciates little things like this and would love her more if she paid attention to them. After noticing her negligence in matters like this he accepted her for who she was. She will even forget her birthday not to talk of another person's own.
"Thank you Lord for today, I enjoyed every bit of it and I'm truly grateful for the gifts of men," He said and relaxed on the bed to sleep.
