Chapter 3. FIRST DUTY!

" Leave what you are doing and come with me ." He says simply.

" Yes, your highness." I say leaving those metal buckets there following him , not knowing where am being led to . Anyway, I don't have to know , my work is to follow instructions and do as told.

Passing by many people around the hallways of the mansion we're in , they bow greeting him as we pass . And he only responds with a 'mhn' . We finally exit the mansion , two guards following behind.

Outside there are five horses near the entrance of the mansion, three guards  standing by them .

" Can you get on by your own?" He asks with his manly voice , eying me . Asking me if I can get on a horse.

" Yes " I answer calmly and regret it the very second I said that . Well , the fact is that I've never driven on a horse before and I've just realised how scary they look! Looking at them this close make goosebumps rise on my skin.

There are two with a carriage , the carriage is obviously his .

"Then go on." he says smirking as if he has already become aware of my fear .

I go close hesitantly and just as I gather all my courage to hold the rein , the horse neighs which make me jump back hitting my butt on the hard ground.

The guards laugh hard as I raise myself from the ground.

" Aahh.. Shorty , now you know why people should be honest." He says amusingly. " Come , get in with me , you are my servant after all , besides there's something I want to ask you . "

I walk to the carriage and enter , I hear the guards whispering about something and when he looks at them they stop immediately. I go on climbing in.
Whoa.. it's so cosy and clean in here , I even feel uncomfortable sitting in for I don't think I deserve to be here , besides , am keeping a secrete so I shouldn't be close to him just incase he notices it .

He comes and sit beside me , we're not that close but My body flinches. The horse starts moving.

" What ? Do I look like a monster to you ? I don't eat little girls ." he says smirking as if he's enjoying this , am starting to wonder if what I heard about him is really true because right now he's being a total jerk , teasing people seems to be his best hobby, smirking sheepishly his second hobby .

I used to hear that he's cold , straight forward person and he never entertains silliness. I doubt everything I heard is true .

I don't want to dwell on that topic about little girls so much because it gives me chills .

" My name is not Shorty , am Maya , and by the way, am not that short your highness." I say out of the blue . Since he's being so casual, why don't I take this chance to be casual with him too and talk as I please.

°°°I was asked to use the name Maya, so I'll just use it , five years aren't that many, before I realise it ,I'll be gone from this place and live my own life with my own identity, and by the way , there's no money am giving to my so called aunt , I have a chance now to make some coins and start a life of my own.

...He totally ignore what I've just said "So Shorty, since you are a girl , why don't you tell me the kind of gifts girls like, a romantic gift Ofcourse." he says looking to the front as if am not the person he's talking to.

I don't say anything , am nervous because am not a girl and also I don't know anything to do with gifts , romance and all that . I've been so busy all my life, worrying everyday about everything , how can I know anything to do with love , in fact, I've never thought of love and anything that has to do with it.

"Didn't you hear me?" he asks turning to me .

" Did you talk to me? I thought you asked Shorty not me." I ask gathering all my courage to look at him.

"Mmh.. you become so bold faster than I thought. Do you know who you are talking to like that?" he asks casually but it still manages to make me freak out beyond words.

"Your highn.. "

He cuts me " Uuh.. and also you become scared faster than I thought." He grins as if he has just won a big battle . Now am totally confused if I should casually speak, speak respectively or don't speak at all . "Am knowing you faster than expected . " he adds .

Words seem to leave my mouth without consulting my brain . "I told you am not the best choice , I don't know about anything, I can't even do anything r..."

" Hey , beauty lies in beholder's eyes , haven't you ever heard of that ? "

I look at him speechlessly, wondering what he means .

" What are you blushing for ? What I mean is that , you might think that you are not good enough to be my servant but I chose you because I somehow think you are able. " he says turning around and pushes the curtain aside to look outside .

Blushing?! Am blushing? What is he talking about , why would I blush?!

" Okay , I don't know what other girls like as gifts but for me , my boyfriend always get me food , I love eating, it's my first hobby , and he also love that about me , uuh.. I already miss him ." as I said my mouth has refused to consult my brain on what to say. It's bluffing..

"So it's true, I used to think it was just a saying!" He says sarcastically.

" What true?" I ask curiously.

" That people who eat too much never add weight nor height." He says smirking.

This idiot. Why do people even fear him , he's totally playful . I ignore that not wanting to go on with that topic.

Suddenly his voice turns serious. "So you do have a boyfriend? Is that the reason you were refusing to be my maid when other girls are crying for that position . You'll have to end your relationship with him ."

" Why would I do that ?"

" Because I've said that , didn't they tell you that my words are final and can't be questioned?" Is he a chameleon or what , smiling sheepishly and the next minute he's as serious as an owl! Who is he playing tricks with?

" You.."

he starts speaking but I cut him because the topics we've speaking of are totally unreasonable and sensitive. I don't know where am getting the audacity to talk back at him and even cut him when speaking, maybe it's because he's being so casual with me , so why not me be casual  with him .
" I think you should buy her a necklace , I guess she'll love that."

" You even dare cut my words?" he asks looking at me as if he can't believe it .

" Am sorry, your highness, an idea popped up in my mind and I would have forgotten it , I needed to sa..." I stop talking when the carriage stop moving.

" Your highness , we're here." one guard says opening the small metal door of the carriage.

He gets off and I follow behind , turns out we were coming to town .

People who see him stop what they are doing and bow down in respect.

" Jeremy , take this , buy a necklace for ladies , find the one that you think she will like , you know how she is."

" Yes , my prince." he sends his bodyguard .

He turns to me.

" So.. what kind of food do you love eating? " he asks simply. I widen my eyes looking at him surprised. I thought we dropped that topic a long time ago .
