Shadow Tea Theatre was the teahouse that Macaque and Chyou opened up. With a darker more traditional exterior, and a moody elegant interior, it was one of the most popular places in the city. Twice a day Macaque would perform a shadow play that would captivate the crowds.
When Macaque wasn't performing one of his plays, he would sit at the bar where Chyou would make tea, read over some papers, or chat with whichever friend stopped by. Macaque sat with Pigsy, Sandy, Wukong, and Tang reading a book while Chyou poured tea into a cup for customers. It was calm for once, with no kids, MK, or Mei goofing around as the adults went about their afternoon.
"DAD!" Tao yelled out in a panic, with Daiyu behind him
Wukong and the others turned to him panicked that something bad had happened.
"What's wrong!?" Wukong jumped out of his seat.
"DaiyuandIwerewalkingwhenathiefwearingacloakcameoutofastoresowestartingchasingafterthemandwhenwefinallycaughtuptothemthethiefturnedouttobeamonkeyandvanished!" After Tao finished, he began to catch his breath.
"What did he say!?" Pigsy turned to the others.
"Daiyu and him were walking when a thief wearing a cloak came out of a store, so they started chasing after them, when they finally caught up to them, the thief turned out to be a monkey and vanished." MK repeated what Tao said.
"When did you get here!?" Daiyu turned to MK and Mei who were sitting at a table next to the bar.
"You ran past us about a block back," Mei responded, "you two looked so freaked out we followed you."
"Wait you said they were a monkey?" Wukong looked back at his son. "Like you, me, Macaque, and Daiyu?"
"Yes." Tao nodded his head.
"Tao are you sure?" Wukong looked concerned.
"Yes, I'm sure," Tao was insisting, "she had brown fur, and her eyes were--"
Tang cut him off by clearing his throat. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news."
"No, you don't." Daiyu crossed her arms.
Tang cleared his throat once again. "As I was saying, what mostly likely happened was an illusion of some kind."
Tao wanted to protest but before he could Tang put his hands together and smiled. "Now let's begin our lessons for the day."
Daiyu and Tao groaned. Tang had somehow managed to convince Macaque and Wukong that it was important that they learned about their legacy, those who they had encountered centuries ago, and any powerful items, for they might need to know this information in the future, at least that's what Tang told their dads. Daiyu and Tao were convinced that Tang just wanted to talk about all he knew, since he had nothing else to tell MK and the others.
So here they were, in the teahouse office listening to Tang's long explanations, they were stuck, they couldn't just tune him out because he would test them and if they both didn't meet his standards, he would redo the lesson until they did, nor could they skip out on the lessons, the group would search the city and drag them back to wherever Tang was holding the lesson. Daiyu and Tao were sitting in two armchairs with Daiyu resting her head in her hand looking bored and Tao sitting upside down with an equally bored expression.
"Heaven's Guides," Tang turned to the chalk board standing behind him, "are five circular tablets with different color jades in the center, each jade represents one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water."
"Tao," Tang turned to him unaware, maybe uncaring, of how bored the two teenagers were, "what are the colors the correspond with the five elements?"
"How should I know?" Tao replied. "Ask Daiyu, she's the artistic type."
"Answer the question." Tang looked unamused.
"Fine," Tao groaned. "Green for wood, red for fire, yellow for earth, white for metal, and black for water."
Tang gave a pleased smile before turning back to the chalk board to start drawing. "It had been said that a Heaven's Guides can transport a single person anywhere but when all five are together they have the power to relocated mountains if the wielder desires."
Tao's eyes widen when tang relived the drawing of a Heaven's Guide, that was what the monkey had in her hand.
"THAT'S IT!" Tao screamed before making the chair fall backwards.
"What's it?" Tang looked startled by Tao's sudden outburst.
"That thing!" Tao stood up pointing at the chalk board. "That's what the monkey used to vanish! I saw it in her hand, the stone was yellow!"
"Tao," Tang closed the book, "like I said earlier, it was--"
"I don't care," Tao cut him off, "I know what I saw! There are others like me, like Daiyu, like Dad and Macaque!"
Tang and Daiyu were stunned silent but Tao's outburst. It was like all the highheartedness had been sucked out of the room.
"Is everything okay?" Chyou opened the office door, holding a tray of tea with Macaque following behind her. "We heard a lot of noise."
"Yes," Tang adjusted his glasses.
His eyes quickly glanced over at Tao before letting out a sigh. "Tao just remembered something about his encounter with the mysterious monkey."
It was Tao's turned to be stunned silent. Tang usually stood by his beliefs until he saw something that would change them, at least that was the impression Tao had of him.
"It seems that the monkey in question had an ancient relic I was talking about," Tang began to explain, "I normally wouldn't suggest something like this, but why don't we look into Tao's discovery."
Tao without thinking hugged Tang tightly, smiling from ear-to-ear as Tang gave a small smile before ruffling the top of his head.
"I'll let the others know," Macaque shrugged with a smirk, "I'll have my bags back in the morning."
"Wait," Chyou turned to her husband, "what?"
Before Chyou had a chance to question Macaque, he had closed the office door, most likely to inform the others. Chyou groaned in frustration as she put down the tray on a small table.
"Macaque!" Chyou called out after him as she opened the office door to go after him.
Once the office door closed it was just the three of them in a silent office. Tao had released his hold on Tang as Daiyu use her powers to pick up the chair that Tao was sitting in.
"What made you change your mind?" Daiyu turned to Tang raising her eyebrow.
"Tao picked my interest," Tang grabbed a cup off the tray, "if it isn't a monkey, it surely must be something worth looking into. And as your teacher, it's my job to make sure I provided accurate information."
Tang turned to them with a smile. "So, my homework for you is to get well rested I want to see bright-eyes and bushy-tailed monkeys in the morning. We have a long trip ahead of us."
Tao and Daiyu ran out of the office excited for what was to come.
