Obsidian walls. An impenetrable door. Deafening silence.

Adalia's imprisonment had stretched across the last three days. She was unaware of how much time had passed, the only proof of time still flowing being the servants entering her confines with food and water. Both of which had remained untouched each time they had been given to her. She refused to eat the scraps her captors offered her, no matter how badly her stomach protested.

The Harkonnens had laid waste to House Atreides, massacring their people while they slept. An orchestrated attack made by the Emperor himself. Leto Atreides had become too influential in the Imperium, making the Emperor feel threatened, and jealous. And because of this, the entirety of his House would pay the consequence.

It was a smart move, Adalia had to admit that at least. Using the Harkonnens' centuries-long feud to his advantage as a false premise for the attack. She now saw clearly how he had been able to keep the throne for as long as he had. Through deceit and ruthlessness.

And now Adalia, most likely the last of her people, sat in one of the Harkonenns cells, imprisoned there in an attempt to break her spirit.

She refused to let that happen to her. She would not be bested by her House's sworn enemy.

As strong as she tried to keep her resolve, the unwavering ache of grief weighed on her heavily. Not only had her people been massacred, but also her family. There was no certainty to their demise, in reality, she had no idea if they had survived. But she had to learn to accept that she was most likely the last of her people.

If her intuition served her right, at any moment now the door in front of her would open and Adalia would be greeted by a servant delivering food she would once again, refuse to eat.

She wondered how much longer she would be kept in this cell, how long these cruel people would confine her. She was honestly surprised they had still been bringing her food after the first time she refused it. But Adalia recalled what the Reverend Mother had told them, had told her. She was being kept alive to fulfil their prophecy.

As she expected, she heard the clunk of her cell being unlocked, the door thrown wide. Adalia kept her head down, unwilling to acknowledge the servant. She waited for them to run over to her feet, but no one came. Instead, the overbearing presence of the person loomed over Adalia.

Whoever stood in that door frame was no servant.

It was a Harkonnen.
