It's not even funny how much time it took me to write all these reviews...

In my defense there are over 40 books here and I always wait until the last minute to write them. No seriously. It's May 30th right now and these are the books for April.

The First Time She Drowned by Kerry Kletter

I cry every single time I read this book, and not even like small tears but full-on weeping. It's such a beautiful story and I love how well Kerry Kletter twists words and flashbacks and ties everything together.

The story follows Cassie, who was dumped in a mental asylum against her will by her family at the age of 15. Two and a half years later, she gets the opportunity to leave in order to attend a college, and while doing so, she battles her past and figures out what's right and wrong. It's such a heartwarming book and I cry every time I read it.

Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed

This book touched my heart in so many different ways. It follows a Pakistani girl who, upon her boyfriend being discovered by her very religious parents, is forced to come with them to Pakistan where plans without her knowing are being formed. I had to take quite a few breaks while reading it, mainly because of how... heartbreaking her story is. Definitely recommend.

9.5/10

The Wicked King by Holly Black

This book is a classic, and I will never stop loving Holly Black's books. I've already done a review for it earlier this year.

Forty Words for Love by Aisha Saeed

This book is a perfect mix between realism and fantasy, so much so that I had to remind myself that many of the elements do not in fact exist. It follows two best friends in a town called Moonlight Bay, where the magic seems to be fading after a horrible incident. The two try to fix not only their home, but also battle with what they want to do now, and whether or not they wish to stay in their town.

The story was beautifully written, but it was a bit slow at parts. It definitely had my attention though.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

*cue intense fangirling*

I have been waiting for this book for such a long time. In fact on Libby, it says I was waiting for 291 days. It did not disappoint. Not only did it follow the story of a woman who found herself having to choose between her past lover she thought dead, and her present, but also having to deal with the changes that come in the years that have passed.

I think this book dealt with the subject of time in such a gentle way, and I couldn't help but be drawn in by the story. Taylor Jenkins Reid will always have my respect for the way she manages to warp characters and settings into tales.

10/10

Tom Lake by Anne Patchett

This book followed the story of Lara, in the form of her telling it to her daughters. While balancing her past, we also see what is going on in the present. This book dealt with topics like fame and life very well, but it did lose my attention at some parts. I would recommend it, but only if you're looking for a wholesome, slow read.
