The three of us were enjoying our time in the lake when we discovered a ball. It looked like a beach ball so we assumed using it in the water would be alright. We were playing monkey in the middle, Steve was the monkey, and well I am sadly not as tall as the two hunks, but I was still able to hold my own and make sure Steve didn't get the ball. But then Roger's suddenly stopped and swam out of the game and checked his watch, "Sorry guys I hate to break this up but Tony wants me back at the compound, see you two later!"

With only a Bucky and I left, we stopped playing the game, and we didn't really talk to each other for a while. I was facing the other direction enjoying the comfortable silence between the two of us, it's hasn't been a long time, but I feel so much more relaxed and safe than I was two weeks ago. It's weird to think, but if I haven't gotten drunk with him that night, we might not be where we are right now, and it's comforting to realize everything is starting to go my way, or at least partly.

"Hey Olivia, I have a question."

I swam closer to him still not exactly meeting eye to eye with him, "hmm, what's up?"

"Steve gave me a quick run down about why you came here, you know, to the compound, but I never really figured out why you ended up staying. You don't have to answer if i'm crossing a line, but i've just always been curious."

"Oh, yeah I guess no one actually really knows why i'm here. Well it all started a couple weeks ago, I was at home with my parents having dinner, and then they ask me if I have gotten accepted into any universities yet. I took a gap year since I was not accepted anywhere, I tried to apply again, a couple months ago, and I never got an email back. So, I told them sincerely, no, I was afraid I would get in trouble if they caught me lying, and I hadn't sensed any tension in the air that, day so I thought it would be safe to tell them the truth. As you can assume, I was wrong."

"The way my mom yelled at me, you would've thought I was wearing booty shorts and a tube top to a funeral. My dad just sat there eating his food with a disappointed look on his face. These fights happen often, and I didn't think anything more of it. A lot of the times I would fight back, my dad would be trying to keep distance between me and my mom, sometimes I would get so mad at her I would imagine my fist making nice contact with her face."

"woah." Bucky said,

"I know it sounds horrible, but my mom, sh-she, was a controlling maniac, and a helicopter parent. She was just as cruel to me as I was to her, I would always feel bad for thinking about trying to punch her after everything settled down, so when our fight had resolved into sweat, tears, and cry's I charged into my room and didn't come out till morning."

"So did you run away?"

"Not exactly, I mean I ended up here you know, but when I went down to the kitchen that day, I found my parents huddled next to their cup of coffee. The morning after a fight, I always apologize, but as I was getting ready to speak, something felt different. My mom spoke up and talked about what they discussed after I left to my room."

"I want you to leave my house. I was stood there shocked, I actually almost laughed. I genuinely had no idea why she wanted me out, the fight last night was not even as close to the worst thing that has ever happened between us, what was different this time. So I was waiting for them to explain to me why I am getting kicked out, fortunately they were nice enough to explain to me why."

"And what did they say?"

"They said, because my whole family is filled with doctors, master degrees, and lawyers, not being accepted into a university a second time is unacceptable, and they can't have this type of reputation to tarnish their name. So in a desperate attempt they thought that the best thing to do for their family is to kick me out."

"That just, that's such a bummer, I can't believe that happened to you. But if i'm not over stepping, i'm still a little confused though, as to how did you end up here?" he asked rubbing his head

"Well like I mentioned, my whole family was filled with crazy scholars and basically tons of money passed down from generations and generations. We were living in the Beverly Hills of our city. Sometimes I would travel down to New York a couple of times, and we would often visit the tower. Sometimes it was for business but sometimes it was just for fun. I saw Nat and Steve a couple times actually."

"wow, tiny world."

"Hehe, yeah. Oh where was I, oh right, I was forced to gather my things, and within 2 hours I was walking away from the front door. I had tears streaming down my face, one hand carrying two suitcases, everyone was looking at me as they drove through. I felt so embarrassed. As I started to walk in no direction, I was thinking of maybe moving into one of my friend's houses, but I didn't know if anyone would be willing to take me in, especially on such short notice. I decided to go see if my grandma would be able to help me, even if it's just lending me a couple nights I could felt that I could figure something out by then, but she lives in Canada, so I needed to get there somehow. I had some money left in my wallet, so I called the taxi, and 30 minutes later I was standing at the front doors of the airport, alone, contemplating life."

"I realized I didn't have enough money for a plane ticket, I didn't think it through. I just ended up leaving against the side of the wall like a sad sack. I was so mad at myself, I was crying all over again. It was until Tony came through those automatic doors and noticed me that I finally felt hope."

"So did he take you in?" he asked

"Essentially he did, he asked me if I have any powers, anything to bring to the team. I said no, but I did volunteer to cook. He said to me, you know what kid, come with me into the plane, if you can make me an omelette, i'll let you into the compound."

"Has he told you about his omelette story?"

"There's a story?"

He laughs holding his chest, "it's the best, don't worry he'll tell you soon enough. But so i'm assuming you made a good omelette."

"Well he took a look, didn't even taste it and shook my hand."

"That's Tony for ya."

"Haha yeah."

We paused for a moment before I asked him a question.

"Is-is it ok if I can get a hug? I know this is weird to ask but I just really need one right now."

"Um, yeah, yeah sure."

He looked a little hesitant and immediately I was embarrassed. I started profusely apologizing, swimming away from him.

He was shouting for me to come back but I didn't, and then I felt something hit my back.

It was him.

He wrapped his arms around me and I started crying. I didn't know what else to do, but he suddenly spun me around, and I was face to face with his chest. The way I was crying was not reflecting the same way I was feeling.

My heart was about to beat out of my chest. I guess I should've expected it, I was hugging the Bucky Barnes.

As nervous as I felt, relief just washed over me while his arms wrapped around me. I wasn't hating on him, he wasn't the guy that barely spoke to me the second I arrived, he's the guy that is making feel secure, he makes me feel safe.

I don't know what's going to happen in the future, no one, no one, really knows. But for now, i'm feeling content with my new life here, I feel happy.

I haven't felt happy in years. It's crazy how good a power of a hug can be.
