Maddie Fenton prided herself in many things. She was exceptionally proud of her daughter Jasmine, who was currently attending Harvard University to study psychology, and once she got her degree, she agreed to pursue a study in ectoplasmic psychology! Even if she wasn't going to become a ghost hunter like they had hoped for both of their children, she was going to study why ghosts pretend to not be the horrid monsters they truly were in their entire being. She was going to study how the excessive ghost attacks were affecting the people in their home of Amity Park. She was going to come back home, and partake in the family business! The business that started it all, without them, there would not even be a ghost hunting team in the government, or anywhere in the world.
She also prided herself in her and her husband's inventions. The Fenton Cramer, The Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle (GAV), The Ecto-Skeleton, The Fenton Anti-Creep Stick, and most importantly the Ghost Portal. She and her husband were the first ones to create a working portal to a new dimension. A new realm. She was the mother of ghost science. Jack was the father. They were the cause of everything. They proved to everyone that they were not crazy, that they were the only ones capable of protecting their town. Who else could say they created, and opened the doorway to new opportunities, to a new world? In her opinion, they should have been seen and treated as king and queen. They did that, they should be in charge of everything. They were more or less able to do what they needed or wanted in the town, putting up their many ghost hunting and capturing devices all around the town, creating the ghost alarms that activate any time a ghost so much as floats in the vicinity. Who cares what the ghost was doing? They should not have been there in the first place. What is dead should stay dead. Ghosts are unnatural, and anything that happens to them when they step inside a ghost shield they deserve.
There were so many things that Maddie Fenton was proud of. There were also some things that she wasn't proud of. Daniel Fenton. She used to be exceptionally proud of her son. He wanted to be a scientist. Go into space, see the stars. Her and her son used to spend countless hours in the late evenings staring at the sky, competing in finding different constellations. They used to share so much, talk for hours on end. She was so proud of him. Then something changed. She has not felt pride for her son in a long time. She was lucky if she was only disappointed in him. Most of the time, she was angry, frustrated, ashamed to call him her son.How could she be proud to have him as her son? He was gone from class more often than not. He was failing most, if not all of his classes. He walked out of the house looking homeless. He no longer presented himself like he used to. He was no longer acting like a Fenton. Fenton's aren't failures. Danny was a failure.
That was how she felt when she hung up the phone from Daniel's English teacher, Mr. Lancer. He had wanted to talk to his parents and Danny about his attendance record, and his failing grade. Maddie was absolutely fuming, holding the phone so tightly in her hand it began to creak and bend. They had talked about this. They told him that he couldn't miss classes, couldn't fail a class. He would be in more trouble than he already was.If he was struggling, he could talk to them about it. But he wasn't struggling, he just wasn't applying himself at all. He wasn't depressed, he had friends, had a support system he could rely on. He wouldn't get out of this one easily.
"Jack." Maddie said sharply, unable to conceal any of her emotion. "We've been summoned to the school."
Jack Fenton, who had been working on a new invention a few workstations away, looked up at her with a frown. "What could he have done this time?"
"The same as usual. He missed the entirety of the class, and has failed to turn in an assignment for the past month, other than today." Maddie said. "Where did we go wrong with him? Why could he not have turned out like Jazz?"
"I don't know, sugar. I suppose we should get ready to leave." Jack said, wiping off his hands. He had elected to take off the gloves of his hazmat suit while he worked on the more intricate parts of the new weapon, although it would have been hard to tell with how black his hands got from working with the metals. Maddie nodded as she began packing her things up as well. "We will leave shortly."
