Y/n POV-

Staring up at the ceiling, the night was filled with endless thoughts and wonders. Every emotion you had ever felt that night you truly met Gracie came flooding back. You lay next to your boyfriend, wondering why you were so entranced by Gracie in the way you should have With Nick.

You hated this. It felt disgusting, shameful and horrid.
You thought about the curve of her body, the curls of her hair, and the timbre of her voice. You could have spent an eternity merrily in her embrace.

Although you didn't want to feel this, it wasn't the first time. You were thirteen when it first started. The confusion, questioning, and curiosity. It all started with an attachment to an LGBTQ character on a TV show, then it progressed to people on the street.

When your mother found out about it, she was disgusted, although she attempted not to show it, you could see it in her eyes. For months after it was constant fights. It was the calm between the storms, but without a real sense that the last storm had passed.
After endless nights of crying, wishing you were someone else, something in your brain switched. It was like all those emotions and attractions were washed clean although truthfully you had pushed them into the darkest part of your mind, leaving them to gather dust.

The clock ticking filled the silent room as you now lay next to your boyfriend, understanding what was missing from your relationship. It wasn't the love, chemistry, or connection... it was his gender. You may have liked boys, but you wanted to feel something again; something real.

*TWO DAYS LATER*

You were sitting tapping your pen on the paper, sitting across Gracie in the studio, attempting to write something, anything. The writer's block was starting to take a toll on you now.

"You alright?"

You glanced up from your notebook and saw Gracie offering a concerned expression.

"Mmm, just a bit stuck on the song is all." You admitted.

Gracie shifted her body closer to yours, her scent filling the room of floras. She smelt of jasmines, like walking through a garden at night.

"Let me see..." she took the book, slipping it through your grasp.

She began reading what you had written down, each lyric, each feeling, and each thought.

"Mmm mmm, when I told you "I'm fine", you were lied to. How could I think that all that I gave you was enough?" Grace whispered the lyrics quietly to herself.

You were nervous as she read them.

"I like it, Y/n. it's a good start, but it's definitely not a first verse kind of thing, more like; leading into the chorus. I really like it" she smiled at you.

Her smile was soft, filled with comfort and affection.

"You think so?" You whispered although no one else was in the room with you two.

"I know so," she whispered back in at the same volume.

Her eyes are so different in moments like this, softer than you knew eyes could be. The professional woman is gone and instead, it is the eyes of one who feels so deeply. If it were anyone else you would drop your gaze, but with her you're drawn in closer, always wanting more. There is something about that gaze of her's you'll never find in another man or woman, as if your souls have made a bridge in that moment.

Something inside of you was ignited. Something unexplainable.
Although this moment was becoming increasingly intense, the air shifted as a person entered the room, withdrawing you both.

"Y/n? Where have you been?" Your boyfriend barged into the room.

You glanced up at Nick with a confused face, wondering why he wasn't out filming.

"I've been in here writing. This is Gracie," You introduced her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Your body was subconsciously drawn to her touch, although it was a simple welcoming gesture, it felt like so much more...

Nick nodded his head, almost dismissively. He then turned back to you. He looked in slight irritation.

"I called you? You didn't want to answer?" His arrogant tone created an uncomfortable environment.

"It was on silent. Sorry..." You spoke in a more calm tone.

"Well I expect you to answer for me, it's not that hard. I'm your boyfriend." His voice was beginning to rise.

Gracie's POV-

Gracie had prior knowledge that the two had been in a relationship for some time but she had never expected the dynamic of it to be anything close to this. On social media, your relationship was portrayed to be soft and affectionate, but right now it seemed far from it. It seemed that you had little control over what happened. That you never got what you wanted out of it.

Gracie wondered if it was always like this or if it was this particular moment in time. But Gracie was a girls girl, she would support and protect them.
She was hating the way Nick was speaking to you at the moment.

"Hey, her phone was on silent. She's been working ha-"

"Was I talking to you?" Nick snapped at Gracie.

Gracie stood up, feeling a more compelling urge to protect you.

"I don't care, don't speak to her like that" Gracie had no clue where this confidence was hidden all these years but she was glad it came in now.

"Y/n. get up, I'll be in the car. We're leaving." Nick glared between the both of you before walking out and slamming the door.

Gracie stood still for a moment. She was shocked by his sudden behavior. She sat down next to you, to ensure that you were okay.

"You alright? Does that happen often?" She took your hands in her own, looking deeper into your eyes, scanning for anything to make her understand.

"No, it doesn't. I don't know what that was..." You mutter.

Gracie could tell that you were embarrassed by his disgusting outburst. It seemed that it had been a shock to you as well.

"You don't have to get into that car with him. You shouldn't have to follow him when he speaks to you like that," She rubbed circles with her thumb around the back of your hand.

"No, it's alright. I should go clear it all up with him," You stood up before her.

Gracie tried to put up a protest, but you were too embarrassed by him. You had to leave the studio before he came back in. You quickly wished her a goodbye before hurrying out the door in a rush.

Gracie stood alone in the studio. You had forgotten the songwriting notebook on the small coffee table. She couldn't help but want to read it to understand you deeper. She worried for you now. She feared who Nick truly was behind all the smiles and kisses on the red carpets.

As she read each lyric, comprehending the meaning, your inner self was revealed to her. She spent hours, analyzing all the unreleased songs you had written. You were hiding a lot more than you like to put out, which was understandable for a celebrity with your status.

Then something clicked with her. She wanted to finish the song you had started today and show her own understanding of a broken person... a broken relationship. She wanted to make a song that was relatable for you. Something that you could sing and understand the hidden agendas behind each word.

Gracie grabbed the pen that sat beside the notebook, and let her thoughts flow onto the paper. She didn't care if this was an invasion of your privacy, she wanted to help you express yourself through this song that was now being rapidly developed.
This was for you.
