The tapas had been largely forgotten as Sarah and James lost themselves in increasingly heated conversation and lingering looks. The intimate corner booth felt like its own private world, the sizzling chemistry between them burning hotter by the moment.
When their fingers brushed going for the last bacon-wrapped date, Sarah felt an unmistakable jolt of electricity. James didn't remove his hand, letting it rest atop hers, his thumb lightly caressing her knuckles. She felt her breath catch at the simple, smoldering gesture.
"You know..." he murmured in that deep, rumbly voice that was quickly becoming her favorite sound. "I'm suddenly very glad we're tucked away back here."
Sarah felt her skin warm with a delicious blush at his heated tone. "Oh? And why's that?"
James slowly lifted her hand to his lips, never breaking their smoldering eye contact as he brushed a featherlight kiss across her knuckles. "Because I've wanted to do that all night."
A shiver raced down Sarah's spine, her nerve-endings awakening with heated yearning. She found herself subconsciously leaning across the table, drawn in by the smoldering look on his handsome face and the accelerated pounding of her heart.
"Is that all you've wanted to do?" she heard herself asking in a hushed, breathy tone that was practically an invitation.
The corners of James' lips curved into a slow, devastating smile. Then in one smooth motion, he slid out of the booth and claimed her mouth with his in a deep, intoxicating kiss that left her dizzy and tingling with awakened desire.
As the smoldering kiss finally broke, Sarah stared at him with heavy-lidded eyes. She knew then and there - this was just the beginning of what was sure to be an epic, all-consuming love affair.
