The Tragedy of a Fairy Tale

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

The flowers have lost their petals

The trees are losing their leaves

The moon has lost its nightly glow

And the sands of time are running out

The chilly wind swept by harshly

An owl hooted loudly

Fate heaved a sigh of frustration

As what was to happen replayed in her mind

Another day, another pair

Another love, another fairy tale

Another boy, another girl

And another tragedy

She took a deep breath and let it out

And let the wind sweep

The stench of the catastrophe

To the Princess and her Knight

For after all not every Fairy Tale has A Happily Ever After…

~*~

This was it

The Princess took a deep breath

And held it in

Just across the road was

The pace she loved most

The gazebo

And there, her Shooting Star is waiting

A cold shiver ran down her spine

And ‘what if’s had made their

Way to the Princess’ mind

Doubts and fears arose

As she thought of the person

Behind the gifts and the letters

The person who had given her warmth

In the times of brokenness

The person whose words had told her

That someone out there,

Though not the Knight,

Adores her, fancies her

Loves  her…

But did she really want to see him?

Did she really want to find out who

Her Shooting Star is?

Did she really want to know

Who this stranger was?

She shrugged the thoughts away as she

Carefully composed herself

She did want to know after all

She put on a smile

And faced the direction of the gazebo

~*~

The wind kept pushing harder

Messing up the already disheveled

Sandy hair of the Knight and the Shooting Star

All the waiting has been nerve wracking

As he thought of all the things that could go wrong

He had decorated the gazebo to suit his Princess’ liking

He even wore a costume to fit everything

And the last gift he carefully held in his hand

His heart in a box

And a bouquet of her favorite flower

Black roses

And his confession of love

That came with these two

She would be arriving anytime soon

He pulled himself together

And patiently stood by

The entrance of the gazebo

Oblivious of the plans Fate has decided

The wind has gotten unpleasantly colder

Making goose bumps appear all over his arm

And the leaves to fall, blocking his view

And then he saw it, everything that would forever change his life…

“PRINCESS!”

~*~

The Princess let out a breath

Here she comes, beloved Shooting Star

And so the road was crossed

Onto the gazebo and her Shooting Star

But see, the plans were made

Fate has decided

And there’s no turning back

The sands of time has vanished

For there’s always bound to be a tragedy

Hidden in every Fairy Tale

Because there’s no such thing as

‘Happily Ever After’s

A bright light spilled everywhere

A piercing honk was blasted

Tires were heard screeching

A faint scream of someone shouting

Her name was evident in the blurry background

And everything went black…
