Obstacle Time

After a much needed night of rest, they were all up and ready for another day. The poor Moroi who had already gone through the course were a little sore, but nothing that would impact their times too much today. That and they also knew that this was nothing to what would be expected of them if they were ever to really need to run for their lives.

Adrian POV

I loved that Rose was including us in this. Not only would it serve to answer any doubts or distractions the Royals will try to pose against her ideas, but also shows how capable we are of taking charge of our own security and should be allowed to do so. She truly is a wonder in our world. Her answers are so simple and obvious that no one had yet thought of ways to truly implement them. Even St Basil's Head Guardian Sokolov seemed impressed with the different ways she is making the guardians think and that she has already seen more combat than most guardians do their entire careers, and should not yet be promised.

FLASHBACK to Promise Ceremony

After the caves had been cleared and while the Queen was still present on campus, it was decided that Rose and her friends would be promised, having proven themselves capable enough to defend Moroi whenever the situation calls for it. While Eddie had technically endangered Moroi because of his relationship with another dhampir, it was not widely known and was being kept under wraps among the hierarchy. Him knowing that others were injured and that one had died because of his actions, would be harsher than any reprimands the guardian council could make, plus, he had been a novice at the time; it seemed cruel to punish him for something that would be instinctual to anyone the first time. There is no better teacher than experience itself.
