"The patient requires constant treatment and neuroleptics to live a stable-normal life."
Michael laid in bed with both eyes closed. He was in a state between sleep and consciousness, and at times like this the Voices seemed even more real than they already were. Suddenly Michael started to hear strings of words through his head. Almost as if they were audible thoughts.
"Why do you wear a mask?: We all wear a mask in one way don't we?"
"Fallen Angels fall to Earth first and when they see what it's like, they can't wait to get to Hell."
Michael opened his eyes and saw Lucy and Jack sitting at the edge of his bed. Michael sat up and read the clock.
"3:17 AM"
M: "Why so early?"
L: "You weren't sleeping anyways, you will be fine."
J: "Wake the fuck up Mikey!"
L: "So tell me how's your little love conquest going?"
M: "Sam is with Kyle."
J: "Big fucking deal. Does that stop your pants from growing every time you see her?"
L: "I bet it hurts doesn't it? Getting so close to Sam just to see her walk off with Kyle?"
M: "Not really....."
J: "You can't lie to us Mikey! We can see right through you. Admit that you felt good hitting numb nuts!"
M: "Sam says I shouldn't fight people."
L: "Awwww but that's no fun is it?"
J: "The adrenaline rushes through your head into your fingers....."
L: "Your body becomes numb and all pain turns into something beautiful."
M: "Stop it!" The two Voices circled Michael and his head became clouded. He walked over to his window and saw a light on in the window that belonged to Sam's room. Sam was laying in her bed in nothing but a too-small shirt, and short track shorts. She held a dark journal and a pen in her hands. She was writing down something while mouthing words to a song that was playing through her new pair of purple and black headphones.
L: "She's beautiful isn't she?"
J: "All alone probably thinking about her little boyfriend."
L: "I can't imagine what she's done with him? You don't think the little innocent thing has fucked him already do you hehe?" Jack and Lucy liked to mock Michael about his new found feelings. They loved seeing him so vulnerable. His biggest weakness was exposed, and that weakness was Sam.
M: "I don't care!"
L: "Yes you do hehe! Michael's in love!"J: "Love?..........Love?...HA! Love is just a myth Mikey. You've got to get your head back on straight."
Just then Michael's phone lit up and he quickly grabbed it. It was a text, from Sam.
S: "Would you like me to dance a little for you Mike?"
M: "You can see me through the window can't you?"
S: "It's ok lol cant sleep?"
M: "I never sleep."
S: "Oak tree now."
Michael threw on some pants, walked out the back door silently and once again hopped the fence. Sam was already sitting under the tree waiting for him.
S: "You don't sleep much do you?"
M: "Not really.......I was talking with Lucy and Jack."
S: "I just have never been able to sleep too much. Insomnia is the best."
M: "Sam are you a virgin?" Sam looked at Michael with astonishment. His curiosity had been bubbling over ever since Lucy mentioned the thought of Sam sleeping with Kyle.
S: "Wow, um that's a little personal don't you think?"
M: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."
S: "It's alright, I don't mind just give me a heads up before you spring something like that on me. Ummm, yes Mike I am a virgin."
M: "Why haven't you fucked Kyle?"
S: "Not ready to talk about that with you Mike, maybe later." A cold breeze rolled in and Sam's hair blew all over her face. A slight shiver was sent through her body and goose bumps arose on her half-exposed, petite figure. Michael took his black hoodie off and handed it to Sam.
S: "I can't take this, what will you wear to school if I wear this?"
M: "My gray-hoodie." Sam laughed and placed the warm hoodie over her head and put her arms through it. She laid back on the cool ground with Michael right next to her.
S: "Mike?"
M: "Yeah?"
S: "Am I pretty?" Michael's pupils widened and his eyes started to wander away from Sam's eyes. He was becoming paralyzed by nervousness and needed to think of something to say quickly. The sun started to peek over the horizon as they laid there.
M: "You are as beautiful as the last corner of Moon light before the rays of the new day fade it away." Michael looked down and saw that she had both eyes closed with her head leaning on his chest. He didn't dare want to wake her up. What Michael didn't know was that Sam wasn't completely asleep. She heard every word that he had spoken and loved the sound. Michael's heartbeat lightly pounded on Sam's head, like the bass from a pair of headphones turned onto full volume and she loved every minute of it. Michael slowly closed his eyes and they laid under the oak tree, finally getting the sleep that both of them needed. They had an hour before school started but neither one cared about what the future entailed. All that mattered was that moment under the oak tree with an oversized hoodie, a cool breeze, and soft spoken words.
