season two | episode sixteen future harper

Dylan was ready for her third class of the day, her black hair was now pulled into a bun on the top of her head, a few loose curls had sprung free but she was too busy with her alegbra homework to care.

She was walking down the hallway while doing her work, book held on her arm and pen in her right hand when she bumped into Alex Russo who seemed to be fleeing her best friend. "Oh, easy there," Dylan's hand ends up on Alex's upper arm, her pen still between her fingers.

"Trouble in paradise?" She raises a brow, her tone light and teasing.

Alex scoffs, not even trying to get out of the raven haired girl's grip. "Stop trying to be cute," She rolls her eyes while Dylan simply smiles at her, brusing a strand of hair out of the other girl's face.

"What's wrong?" Her voice is soft when she speaks, or softer than Alex has ever heard it. That teasing sound was still in her voice but her eyes were sincere.

"Don't you have to get to algebra?" Alex looks down at the unfinished work in Dylan's book as the Evans girl scoffs, "Please, I'm not in a rush." The last place she wanted to be was at algebra.

Alex pauses for a second, scanning Dylan's face before crossing her arms over her chest, "You wouldn't get it."

Dylan shrugs, a playful smile on her lips, "Try me." She pulls her hand away from Alex, sticking her pen into her hair before Alex looks around the now almost empty hallway and it's that moment that Dylan realizes that Alex has a book in her hand.

"Woah, I didn't know you could read," She tosses her homework on the nearby bench, taking the colourful book from Alex who scoffs at her, "First time for everything," She responds, watching the girl in front of her flip through three pages, taking less than fourty seconds on each before she pauses, "It's really good," She flips it over, making quick work of reading the back.

"That's what I'm worried about," Alex sighs, taking the book from here as Dylan gives her a soft smile. "Are you gonna tell me what's wrong or are we just gonna stand here?" She picks up her books, putting them in her bag as she stares at Alex who looks like she's thinking about which option is better.

She pauses for a second before she speaks up, "Can we just stand here?" She asks and Dylan looks over at her before moving to stand right next to her. They're so close that their arms brush one another and Dylan can feel the goosebumps trailing up her skin, "Yeah," She sighs dreamily, "We can just stand here for a while."

Alex looks ahead, her arms at her side as she speaks up again, "Maybe we can even hold hands or something?" She says after clearing her throat, not sure where that sudden desire came from as Dylan nods, hand slowly reaching for Alex's.

Their pinkies brush together first, creating a pool of heat in Dylan's stomach before Alex places her hand in the other girl's and Dylan interlaces their fingers, trying not to smile as she continues looking ahead. "If you tell anyone about this, I'll deny it." Alex whispers, Dylan just whispers back, "We'd hate to ruin your reputation" And then they just stand there until Alex finally feels a little bit better.
