I open my eyes to find that I am inside a bedroom. I didn't know the exact time so I just walked around it. A few minutes later, Fintan, Lady Gisela, Gethen, Vespera and Ruy glittered into view. I turned towards them and asked them why they needed me here. Ruy shook his head and told me, "Well, we need you to be ready for the Night of the Phoenix, a masquerade ball in honor of you returning. It is also a trap for the Black Swan. So do you want to do it?" I looked at him and nodded. Even though I was scared of what might happen, I still wanted to do it. I wanted revenge against the Collective. Still, there was a nagging thought in my mind.
"What about my friends? What about Keefe?" I asked. Lady Gisela hesitated for a moment before replying, "Your friends already know about you being part of the Neverseen before the kidnapping. The Collective told the entire Black Swan after you left for bed a bit ago. They will act strange at first but you must ignore them. We watched them, invisible, when they learned. Their reactions were that you were now safe. They agreed with the Black Swan on you not knowing your past life. My son had a few doubts about not telling you but the Collective told him that it was for your benefit. He then also agreed with them." I stared at them, feeling betrayed. The people I had loved, and my boyfriend too had agreed on not telling me my past. Who my real parents were. How could they? How could he?
Blinking back tears, I said, " I am not going back! Bring all of my things here. How could they do this to me? I can't go back." They looked at me with pity but soon agreed to my choice.
Gethen then said, "Do you want to still do the Ball?"
I looked him dead in the eye and said, "Yes."
All except Ruy then left the room to plan the Ball.
"Are you feeling okay?" I heard him ask.
"I don't know what to feel anymore! The boy I loved has agreed on not telling me who my own parents are! I-I can't be with him even though we've barely started dating. I really thought he was the one after Fitz but I guess I was wrong." I replied, breaking down in tears. Ruy held me and let me cry my heart out.
After a good 10-15 minutes, I sniffled and said, "Would you do me a favor?" Seeing him nod, I continued, "I want to write a few letters to everyone. Specifically Keefe. Could you bring me some paper and pencil and deliver them?" He smiled sadly at me and left to get the materials. I stared at the wall, waiting for him to come back. He gave me the materials and left the room to give me some privacy. I pulled the pen out, took a sheet of paper and started writing. Dear Keefe, I'm sorry but we can't be together...
A couple hours later, I finished up writing the letters and folded them neatly and walked out of the room. I wandered around and then saw a room labeled, Meeting Room. So I knocked, and upon hearing a come in, opened the door to see Gethen, Ruy and Lady Gisela standing around a table that was filled with papers. I glanced around the room, and asked, "Can someone give these letters to my friends and adoptive parents? These are some letters I wrote to them. Don't worry, they say nothing about the Neverseen or that stuff." I bit my lip, anxious. Lady Gisela looks at me and nods. She walks up to me, takes the letters and walks out. I look at Gethen and Ruy then walk out the door and back to the room I was in. I layed down on the bed and fell fast asleep.
Candleshade: 3rd Person P.O.V (One hour after Sophie went to sleep)
"KEEFE!!!!!! GET OVER HERE!!!!," Ro yelled, from the 45th floor of Candleshade. They were there because they were looking for some of Keefe's old drawings that he hid somewhere.
"Do you really have to scream? I was in the next room," Keefe said, coming out of the room Ro was across from.
"Is this a secret love letter from your girlfriend??" Ro said, slyly. Keefe blushed a little and snatched the paper from her hands. "What is this?" He said to himself. Keefe ripped open the envelope and started to read the letter out loud.
"Dear Keefe, I'm sorry but we can't be together. I know we just started dating but I can't do this. I love you but I can't be with people who don't trust me. I am very sorry. I know this isn't making much sense right now but I promise to give a full apology when we next meet. I don't know when that is going to be. It could take a few days or a few years. It depends. I'm sorry for breaking your heart. You are an amazing person and one day you will find the one for you. That person isn't me. This is hard for me too. Goodbye Keefe. Signed Sophie Foster"
By the end of the letter, Keefe was sobbing. Ro just looked at him and hugged him. Keefe didn't even fight it, he just hugged her back crying harder.
"Let's go back home," Ro said, pulling out two nexus's like the ones that Sophie used to have before, clamping it on the boy's wrist and herself, took out a leaping crystal to Havenfield and they glittered away.
