Brazil - Declan McKenna

"Kaia!"

My mom's voice echoes up the main stairs and into my room.

I lift my head up from my laptop and turn to my bedroom door, closing my laptop and getting off my bed.

My feet touch the cold hard-wood floor as I walk to my bedroom door, opening it.

"Yeah mom?"

I look to the bottom of the stairs and see her stressed body language as she rests her elbow on the stump of the staircase railing, turning her dark brown eyes to me.

"Please tell me you're ready to go."

I sigh, smiling softly at her in an attempt to cheer her up.

"Of course I am! Focus on yourself, I'll be out in a sec." She nods at my words, taking a deep breath in as she stands back up and brushes the "dust" off her hands, turning to direct another furniture mover.

I step back into my room and close the door.

I am so not ready.

I turn and rest my back on the door as I close my eyes.

"I'm glad that we're finally getting to know dad's parents but I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to everyone yet.. "

I sigh as I mumble, opening my eyes to look at my freshly packed suitcase.

"I should probably check that before we leave."

Before I get the chance to move, my door swings open, flinging me across the room to my bed.

I sit up hastily and stare wide eyed at my door, blowing the curls out of my eyes.

"Dude!"

I yell at my younger brother as he stands in my door frame laughing at me.

"Well now that that's passed, do you know where my headphones are?"

He speaks with his stupid boyish tone.

I furrow my eyebrows as I look at him with a "really dude?" expression.

"Why would I know where your headphones are?"

I do in fact know where they are.

"I don't know!"

He yells back from my door.

But there's no way I'd actually tell him.

"Mano stop yelling at your sister!"

Mom's voice shouts from downstairs, making a triumphant smirk pop up on my face.

"You left them in the kitchen!"

He rolls his eyes at me as I blow a raspberry at his already leaving silhouette.

I drop my upper body back on my bed with a bounce before I look up at my plain white ceiling.
