Pleaser - Wallows

"Welcome to Sydney, Australia"

The voice of the plane captain wakes me up as I sit up and stretch my back.

The plane starts to land as we tilt downwards and the wheels come out.

"Make sure you have your stuff, Smarty Pants."

My younger brother teases me as I roll my eyes.

I can't wait to start fresh, away from all those...

memories.

"You may now exit the plane. Thank you and enjoy your time in Australia!"

The flight attendant speaks after we land, prompting everyone to stand up and stretch their legs after such a long flight.

"Come on, kids!"

My dad speaks as he stands up, leaving his isle and gathering us to leave.

We follow after him with our bags in hand, we walk through the airport until we reach the outside of gate 4A.

"Hey!"

My Grandpa calls to my dad, walking to him and giving him a sturdy hug.

"Hey darl, nice to see you again!"

He hugs my mom and then looks to me and my brother.

"Wow I haven't seen you two since you were little Ankle Biters!"

My brother and I exchange a confused glance before my grandpa pulls us in for a hug, joking with us and making us comfortable immediately.

My grandpa takes our bags to his trunk as a little old lady comes out of their car.

She's dressed elegantly and looks lively as she walks up to my parents and hugs them.

She turns to us and her expression brightens even more.

"How lovely you two have become!"

She hugs us individually and asks about life in New York before giving us a brief introduction of how life will be in Australia.

"Now! We live right next to one of the calmer beaches but the more popular ones aren't too far away! You can walk wherever you want or if you need a ride my car is always available, I don't drive it much anyway."

She winks at us before starting to head to the car.

"Let's head home shall we?"

We nod as my brother and I exchange glances of pleasant surprise, heading into the backseat.

After a short while of driving, we reach a white mansion with beautiful scenery all around.

My jaw drops as I exit the car to get a better look.

There's a gorgeous balcony on the right side, directly above the outdoor eating area.

A smile creeps on my face as I watch the way the sunset dances along the reflections of the water behind the house, I turn back to the right and watch how the trees sway on the diving mountain. I'm going to love it here.

"Kaia?"

My grandmother calls my name and I turn my attention to her.

"I'll get Rob to put your stuff inside, how about you go for a swim?"

I smile softly at her, only now realizing how important my mom's request to wear a bathing suit under my dress was.

"Thank you so much."
