'What on earth do you mean Kiara is hosting a brunch?' Alexander asked, violently jumping out from the bed.
'Exactly that. It's for the closest people in her life, knowing her it's probably a short list.'
Alexander couldn't help but laugh despite waking up at seven a.m. on a Sunday. He had planned to spend the day indoors, perhaps playing video games and listening to Jackson's current favorite album. Or maybe he would just drown himself in bottles of beer and play video games while blasting Jackson's favourite song. He didn't really care what he was doing, as long as he was away from the prying eyes of his friends and as long as Jackson's favourite song was playing.
Alexander had not spoken to Jackson for a long time, and he was not sure if he still had the same feelings towards Kehlani's latest project, "Blue Water Road". However, he finally gave himself the chance to listen to the whole album and found himself falling in love with it. He couldn't stop listening to it and it brought back memories of the times he spent with Jackson before their relationship fell apart.
Life continued on, and at present, it involved Miriam on an official basis. Jackson had made up his mind to sever ties with him, and Alexander had finally come to accept this decision. However, there was no denying how much he missed Jackson.
'So, are you interested?'
Alexander was going to say no, but from the excitement in her voice, it was a big deal (and it would be even bigger if he showed up).
He rubbed his eyes and sighed.
'Yeah sure, let me just quickly shower and then I'll come pick you up.'
'Yay! See you soon pumpkin.'
'Yeah, yeah. Love you,' Alexander chuckled.
'I love you too.'
Alex hung up and immediately regretted agreeing to attend. In the middle of winter, what business did they have getting out of bed early only to gossip about everyone else around them?
It was no secret that Kiara was not fond of Alex, and could not explain why this is, but he was not bothered by it. Kiara mattered very little to him. "But now, being in the same space with her would just make him so uncomfortable. Apart from her snobbish attitude, there was just something else about her that he could not quite put his finger on, but it was a big deal.
After taking a shower, Alexander emerged from the steamy bathroom smelling like ocean breeze. He felt even more tired thinking about the day ahead of him. He put on a white t-shirt along with an unbuttoned plaid shirt, casual trousers, and chunky black leather loafers - and after slapping on his silver Audemars Piguet and AirPods, he was out of the house.
What was strange how he found himself singing along to the song, that was now playing through the car speakers. He is the kind that usually learns by reading the lyrics but with this one, he had not visited the internet once – but he knew the song word for word.
It's how often he'd been playing it.
'Someone looks dressed up for brunch,' Miriam excitedly commented, as she sat beside her boyfriend and gave him a soft kiss. One thing she could never fault him on was how he dressed, not many can get to brag about their boyfriends being incredibly stylish.
'I always seem to fall short of whatever tricks you have for me,' Alexander responded, admitting Miriam's red dress, knee-length boots and the white coat over her back. 'Psh, you think this is something? Wait until the host shows up!'
'What do you mean?'
'Kiara is always the best dressed among the three of us.'
'Oh? I hadn't really noticed.' He was not trying to be sarcastic.
