Kiara could not decide what was more devastating Miriam unintentionally finding out that her boyfriend was cheating through the private confrontation she had with Alexander or the fact that Alexander willingly outed who Kiara was to her friends.
It was supposed to be brunch with little room for error but ended in what simply could be seen as a catastrophe of epic proportions. Either way, Kiara hated it. She hated herself. She hated her life. Mostly she just hated how not-normal things could be. If she was not at odds with her boyfriends then it had to be friends, if not either one of those then it was her father.
Oh, Keith Harding, Kiara heaved a sigh. There was no fibre of energy left to try and do anything anymore.
'I mean Sasha is siding with Miriam because she's upset at the secret that I kept from them. Miriam is upset with me for knowing that her boyfriend was cheating on her. Jackson is upset simply because Miriam threw an entire tantrum and embarrassed the hell out of him, and somehow Alex is in the clear,' she complained, adjusting her reading glasses, and staring straight at the Apple Mac monitor.
At least there was one person she was not at odds with.
'This sounds all terrible, really it does. You haven't spoken to them since the brunch?' Jenner asked from the other side of the computer, where she could be seen nestling with Genghis on the veranda.
Kiara shook her head and let out another sigh.
'And have things gotten better between you and your father?'
'With him, things are at an all time low. We last saw each other last night when he flew in from Luanda.'
'And did you guys speak?'
'No, the last time any of that happened was over a month ago.'
Jenner gasped just slightly, trying not to make too much of a big deal about it. She could not imagine going on for that long without speaking to either of her parents. They weren't exactly at war with one another, but even if that were the case, Jenner would still exchange pleasantries with him.
'Are you not worried that all this stress might push you over the edge? I mean, on the one hand, it's the turmoil with the closest people in your life, and Jackson,' Jenner mocked prompting a light laugh from Kiara. 'And on the other hand, it's academics.'
'Even I don't know how I manage to get by, because it's crazy on this end. I'm sorry to hear about you and Clinton too, how are you doing?'
'Getting by - but it isn't about me,' Jenner stuttered over the supporting statement. 'I need to know what the story is with your father, what's his reasoning for being so uptight about everything?'
Kiara never really looked into that herself. She'd never bothered to, because she merely was socialized into being secretive about who she was and before she knew it, she was being purposely hidden from the world. In all those years, she'd never made time to think about the reasoning behind Keith's questionable parenting.
'Come to think of it,' she opined.
'You mean to tell me you don't?'
'I'd never really thought about it you know. I mean it's just how my life has been.'
Genghis spotted a bird, and quickly ran off the chair they sat on to try and hunt it down, allowing Jenner to finally readjust her positioning on the sofa and allow the blood to flow back to her far limbs.
'I probably sound ridiculous – I blame all the novels I have read – but in situations like these, I would like to believe that there is always some complex backstory which if you listen to might help you better understand your parents. Remember this is just a theory, it's not always the case.'
