'Thanks for agreeing to meet up.'
Alex had never sounded more cordial in his entire life than now. Well, there was the exception of the speech festival he participated in during high school.
Miriam bit her inner lip, and her arms were folded. She had no choice but to sit.
Alexander was mostly occupied by the thoughts of Jackson's words before the two would go on another indefinite cold period. He still fantasized heavily about him and Jackson being a thing. But maybe, for now, he was going to consider his words. Alex was going to get his priorities straight before trying anything again.
That propelled him to ask Miriam to meet him at Starbucks in Irene Village Mall.
Alexander had only seen Miriam mildly upset; that was nothing like he saw now. He did not blame her. The anger, and hatred, she harboured toward him were completely justified.
He swallowed the lump in his throat and sat up properly.
'Would you like me to order you anything?'
'Alexander, why am I here?'
He hesitated, suddenly feeling nervous. The cheerful Miriam he once knew was no more.
'Right,' he cleared his throat. 'Straight to the point. Uh, I won't keep you long.' The one time he wanted his expressive self to manifest, he seemed to be having a hard time.
Miriam folded her arms again.
'Look, I am sorry. You probably have questions, and I would be willing to answer them. I realize that what I did was wrong even before I started, but I did it anyways.'
'You say you knew it was wrong, then why'd you, do it?' Miriam asked sternly.
Her initial intention was to show up and hear what Alex had to say for himself before leaving him again – all without having uttered a single word. But something else in her just wanted to understand why he did what he did. What she could not get over was the fact that he was screwing around with Jackson.
'Was I that repulsive that you wanted to see what it was like being with a man?'
'No. Not in the slightest Miriam. What transpired between me, and Jackson was something that had been going on for some time. It was way before you and I became a thing.'
'Then why did you get me involve me?'
'Miriam, I am bisexual.' It felt weird saying it out loud, but saying it was the only way he would gradually adjust to reality. 'It's something not a lot of people know, and I wanted to keep it that way.'
'Keep it that way, so you wanted to play your twin plug games with me?'
'Miriam, come on,' Alexander gritted his jaw.
'So you could screw around on both sides?' she repeated.
'Honestly speaking, yes,' he sighed, feeling shame overcome him. 'I was into Jackson, and we had a thing going on, but I did not want too many questions surrounding my relationship with him – because that's what it was getting to.'
'What do you mean?'
'Well my friends had seen us together a couple of times, and they got suspicious. So I figured getting with a girl would throw them off, and that day in the library I took a chance hoping it would pay off.'
Surely this was akin to a slap across her face. Miriam hated that he was not mincing his words and looked rather nonchalant while explaining the whole thing. Who knows how many other girls before her were exposed to his shenanigans?
