Isang araw, sa unang pagkakataon, ay dumalo ito sa isang pagtitipon para sa kaarawan ng kaniyang kaibigan. Dito niya nakilala si Konstantine Valmadrid, ang babaeng may malungkot na mga mata. Hindi agad naunawaan ni Christian ang atraksyon na kaniyang naramdaman. Agad niyang inisip na kailangan nito ng kaibigan kahit na hindi niya pa ito lubusang kilala.
