I slipped on a pair of skinny jeans and a black graphic tee. Today was the funeral of my freedom -today was the first day of school. No more waking up late, no more unnecessary snacking, no more late nights at 3 am just scrolling Tumblr or watching movies... Well, the last thing would probably still happen. My hair was slightly tame, so I managed to braid a small portion of my hair and clip it back. My hair was short and wavy and little could be done with it, but it was practical. I grabbed my black messenger bag and slung it carelessly over my shoulder. School wasn't super easy for me, I managed to stay around the top of the class, but that was the result of plenty of revision. I knew not to muck about too much at school if I wanted a future, unfortunately some hadn't got that memo yet-even in the second year of sixth form.

Finally, I ran down the stairs and yanked on my trusty Vans, said a quick "Bye." to my parents and started the journey to hell. I met up with Nora halfway, and we continued our treacherous course. Whilst walking, we noticed Liam and Cai drive past, sending Nora into fits of smiling and happily waving at Cai. I, however, glared. The Pervert didn't even offer to drive us to school. I mean, have some compassion for my poor legs! In a little over ten minutes, we had reached school. I saw Cai and Liam just hanging out by themselves, with a few girls glancing indiscreetly at them. They were probably going to be the only new students this year-not many students join in the last year of sixth form. Nora grabbed my hand and began dragging me over to them.

"Come on, Addie!" she said, and marched me across. "Hey,guys!" Nora waved cheerfully. Cai greeted her with a smile, while Liam barely lifted his head in response. Instead he stuck with his trade-mark grunt. Cai and Nora easily fell into conversation (like normal) and I settled with tracing patterns on the floor with my trainers.

"I cooked the pasta for my mum yesterday." I suddenly blurted out.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, she liked it. " her real words were: 'Maybe he's not as bad as his mother... I approve of your friendship!'. I think she just wants me to learn how to cook.

"So you didn't burn it?"

"Hey! Just because I might not be the best cook, or the brightest person, or have the longest attention span, or-" I looked up at Liam, who's hand was currently clamping my mouth shut.

"If you're not done listing all your flaws, I suggest you finish later, the bell just rang, so I think we should probably be heading to form." I nodded, and he removed his hand from my mouth. Turning on my heels, I grabbed Nora's arm and pulled her along with me.

"Okay, these are your new organizers for this year. You won't get new ones later on, and if you lose them, you'll pay for a new one. You need to learn how to sort your plans out, next year you'll be away from here, and the world won't baby you. Now, in the back of the book, are your timetables, they have the room numbers and teachers for each subject. You also have at least two free periods every week. I'll leave you to familiarize yourselves with your timetables, and if you're going to talk, please do it a little quietly, we don't need complaints from the senior staff so early in the year!" Ms Johnson was our form tutor. She was probably the most laid back out of the six, so we were fine. We got new ones this year, since they'd be helping us with writing our personal statements for universities.

"Didn't Miss Kelly leave last year?" I inquired looking at Nora's schedule.

"Yep, now I have some Miss May for art. You know who she is?" she replied, confused.

"No idea."

Abruptly, the class door opened, and a flustered Cai tumbled in. "Sorry we're late! We got lost, and we couldn't find the classroom. The schools so bloody enormous, and we kept on going to the wrong rooms and-"

"You are?" Ms Johnson asked.

"Oh yeah! I'm Cai Park, Miss."

"Okay, Cai, I'll excuse you this once, but it's worrying me how you keep referring to yourself as two. We?"

"No, Miss, there's actually Liam here with me too!" Cai cheerfully said while pushing a grumpy, zombie-like Liam into the classroom.

"And you are?"

"Liam Everson, Miss."

"Well boys, take a seat. These are your organisers, if you managed to come earlier you would have known what they are, but since you're late, you can ask one of your peers to explain the purpose of those.".After handing them the organisers, she quickly strutted to her desk and sat down. Ms Johnson was an English teacher, she wasn't used to moving around much. I guess her chair was calling her.

"Take a seat." she added as an afterthought, before returning to her book.

After a brief scan of the room, Cai zoned in on us, giving Nora a beaming smile before coming to sit right next to her. Amused by their babbling conversation, I didn't realize that Liam was still standing - well, leaning- pretty comfortably by the doorway.

"A seat, Mr Everson." said Ms Johnson. She did a quick sweep of the room, as did I, and we both came to the same realization. There was only one seat left - right next to me. I repeat. The Pervert and I'd have to sit next to each other for a whole year.

"Ah, there you go. There's a seat right next to Addie." she clarified, whilst momentarily pointing in my direction

Okay, no need to over-exaggerate. We're both people. It will be fine...

After a low grumble of response, Liam made his way to the seat and slung his rucksack underneath the table.

"So..." I attempted at conversation but quickly fell short of ideas.

Liam just continued to stare down at the table, looking mildly disinterested.

"Oh, how's Uriah? It's his first day too, right? I asked.

For a second Liam's barricades fell and he slightly lifted his head long a enough for me to make out his expression. Annoyance? Shock? Worry?

But before I could properly understand, Liam's face turned cold and he lowered his head again.

"Fine. Why wouldn't he be." He replied in a low tone that masked his thoughts.

"Oh, sorry. I just thought-" luckily, I was saved by the bell, and almost knocked out by Liam trudging past me out the door.

"Does he even know where he's going?" I asked to nobody, before grabbing my bag and following suit.
