Mama shouts way too much; it's almost annoying."I know I'm late for school, Mom. I'm dressing," I shout back, careful not to sound rude."Oya now, if you go late and they send you back, that one is your business. Your father won't do anything, oh."I hurriedly finished buttoning my shirt, my heart pounding with the urgency of the morning. As I rushed past the hallway mirror, I caught a glimpse of my reflection, a mess of untamed hair and sleepy eyes. "O ṣeun, Mama, Mo ti lọ!" I called out, my voice trailing behind me as I dashed out the door. The streets were already bustling with the morning rush, a chaotic symphony of honking horns and hurried footsteps. I quickened my pace, weaving through the crowd like a dancer on a mission. Each step brought me closer to school, yet the minutes seemed to slip away faster than I could keep up.As I turned the corner, the familiar sight of the school gates came into view. Relief washed over me, but it was short-lived as I noticed the ominous presence of the school clock, its hands inching closer to the dreaded deadline. With a burst of adrenaline, I sprinted towards the entrance, my bag bouncing against my side with each stride. Just a few more steps, just a little bit faster... And then, with a final leap, I crossed the threshold, panting but victorious. But as I caught my breath and glanced at the clock, a sinking feeling washed over me. I was late. Too late. And I could already hear Papa's voice echoing in my mind, a warning mixed with frustration.I braced myself for the inevitable consequences, knowing that this time, there would be no escape from Papa's wrath.
