Vol10: Episode 2: Spire

Ruby and the others continue walking through the sands, with Ruby holding Lewis's small hand, making Neo smile as she watches this sweet moment. However, the moment is interrupted as some Deathstalker Grimm crawl out from the sands.

Ruby: Neo, protect Lewis!

She tosses him to the mute's arm, before bringing out Crescent Rose-X as she starts slicing the Deathstalkers to pieces, while showing off some of her dark powers, firing blasts of silver and dark energy. Neo and Lewis watched this with awe as Ruby sliced off their body parts. Such a display of power even frightened the remaining Grimm, who returned and retreated back to the sands.

With that out of the way, Ruby turned to her comrades with a smile. Meanwhile, we see JWBY sitting in Theodore's office, as silence befalls the room. Ozpin and Qrow look in concern.

Qrow: Yang, where's Ruby?

Yang didn't answer. How could she? How is she supposed to break the news and everything that has happened to Ruby? While also admitting her own fault in the process?

Weiss: We lost her.

Everyone looks at her in surprise, as her face is overwhelmed with sadness and guilt, making Yang mentally scoff.

"There she goes again......"

Oscar: Lost? What happened?

Blake: When we ended up in the Ever-After, Ruby wasn't herself. She was withdrawn, and our.....Efforts to reach her didn't work. We would be interrupted by random events, and were also pretty scared and worried about what happened to everyone else......So we just kept focusing on getting home, thinking Ruby would get back from this. But we took her for granted.....She was never ok.

Qrow and Oscar looked at one another, while Theodore had a concerned look on his face.

Jaune: And I didn't make things worse......I hurt her. I blamed her for things that weren't even her fault.......

Immediately after hearing that, Qrow's face hardened, as he stomped towards Jaune.

Qrow: What did you do?

Everyone shifted in fear as Qrow stood over Jaune.

Jaune: I-I......

Qrow cut him off as he yanked him by the collar, pinning him to the wall, causing everyone to get shocked.

Yang: Uncle Qrow!

Oscar: Qrow, stop!

Qrow: What did you do?!

Jaune: I never meant to say those things, I-She left us, joined Neo, blinded Blake, and now she's coming here to get the Relic-

The room shakes to the sound of a punch, making everyone's eyes widen, with Jaune falling to his kness, a black eye as a furious Qrow looked down on him. After turning to glare at Yang, he stormed out of the room, as Theodore and Oscar looked at each other in worry and fear.

Oscar: This may just be the worst thing to happen to us.

Theodore: Ruby and her exploits across Remnant have become legendary. There's not a single person who hasn't heard her name or seen photos of her, thanks in no small part to our own efforts. People are telling wild stories about her. There are shortages of red dye because children are buying so many red cloaks. Boys are play fighting with wooden scythes, instead of swords. She has become a hero. A martyr. A symbol of unity. Some of them resent her, but the vast majority idolize her.

Oscar: And now a monster has arrived on Remnant wearing a face familiar to everyone. All the good Ruby risked everything to bring will be erased, and all her efforts will have been in vain.
