I stopped at the girl's body and looked at the two Directors beside me, not knowing what to do or to say next. My whole body was tense, and I couldn't help but feel nervous, anxious even, while I stared at them and waited for them to do something.

My mother stared at the body with an intelligent look in her eyes, and she pressed her lips into a thin line without saying a word, taking it all in.

Finally, after inspecting the body again and seeing the mark on her neck, my mother cleared her throat and looked at me. "Is it safe for me to touch the girl's body?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.

I hesitated and didn't say a word because I had no idea if it was safe or not, earning an amused chuckle from Ruckur.

Tell her that it is safe, he said before he chuckled again. You knew that it was safe, Alexandria. Why didn't you answer her? Why did you have to wait for me to tell you that it was safe?

"Ruckur says that it is safe for you to touch her body," I said with a quick nod. I didn't respond to Ruckur and kept my thoughts to myself, even though it was hard for me to do so because he was in my head and could read them like an open book.

Maybe if I didn't think about it then he wouldn't have to know...

My mother raised an eyebrow in question but didn't say a word while she slowly nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line. She furrowed brows and turned her attention back to the girl and walked over to her.

She took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh, before she reached out to touch the girl's body, hesitating.

Alexandria, Ruckur softly scolded as if he knew what I was thinking.

I didn't say a word to him and slowly blinked while I looked at my mother, waiting for her to do whatever she wanted to do and praying that he would drop the subject.

Ruckur sighed in annoyance, and I had a feeling that he would have rolled his eyes and scowled if he had a face and a body. Alexandria, he warned again when I didn't say a word.

My mother cocked her head and turned the girl's head to the side to reveal the mark on her neck. "What's this?" she asked and looked at me with a raised eyebrow in question.

I shrugged and grimaced. "I think that it is some sort of vampire bite, I think, Mom," I replied. "I think that's how they were able to get dark magic or whatever out of them."

My mother slowly nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line. She furrowed her brows and looked at the girl again before she placed her hand on the mark as if she wanted to trace it.

"What the f-" My mother cut herself off and jumped back and away from the girl's body, and I couldn't help but bite my lip to keep myself laughing. She wrinkled her nose and pursed her lips in disgust while she shook her hand.

Like mother, like daughter, Ruckur grumbled, amused, and I bit back a small snort.

"It's warm," my mother said and waved her hand some more while she wrinkled her nose further in disgust. "Why the hell is it warm?"

"Magic," I replied with a small chuckle in my voice, and she stopped and narrowed her eyes at me playfully. "It's warm because it was created by magic, Mom."

"Are you laughing at me, Alexandria May?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I had to bite back another laugh while I shook my head.

"No, Ma'am," I said before I cleared my throat while I tried to grow serious. "I am laughing because that was the same reaction I had when I had to touch it to make sure that it didn't disappear."
