I closed my eyes at the blinding light and let out a small hiss while I covered my face. My whole body grew tense because I couldn't see what was in front of me, especially since I had the night vision still on my eyes.
Say Relin, Ruckur said. It'll change your vision back to normal.
"Relin," I whispered, and my eyes turned back to normal. I opened my eyes and removed my hands from my face to see that my mother and Michael were in a different room, and my mom was scowling at Michael.
"Really?" she asked. "You needed to do a test when you know that we needed to do something?" She raised an eyebrow and scowled, and he grinned innocently. "You're crazy."
Michael shrugged, and my mother rolled her eyes. "I know," he said. "However, I wanted to test how powerful she was and if she would listen to what my brother had to say. She passed with flying colors."
I rolled my eyes, mimicking my mother, and scowled while Ruckur chuckled.
Same old Micahel, he said, and there was a twinge of sadness in his voice. He loves to test people even when other important things need to be done.
I mentally nodded and cleared my throat. "What was that for?" I asked, looking at both my mother and Michael. I furrowed my brows and cocked my head. I was confused. I knew that Michael had given me a test and passed with flying colors, but I wanted to know why when we had to business to attend to.
Michael shrugged. "I wanted to see where your magic was at," he replied. "I know that you had some training with your mother and father over a few things, but I wanted to see where you're located as a Director."
I raised an eyebrow and cocked my head. Curiosity filled my body, and I wondered what Michael had found out during the test that he set up for me without my mother's permission. "And?" I pressed, hoping that he would answer me.
"You're more powerful than your mother," he said, and my mom looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "I do not know if that is because you are more of a Seer than your mother or if it is because of something else." He looked at my mom and smiled innocently. "No offense."
She shrugged and looked amused. She looked proud of me, and it made my heart feel lighter because I wanted to make her proud. "None taken," she replied. She cleared her throat and shifted on her feet while she grew serious. "I also think that it is because she knew her powers more than I did when I was that age," she said. "However, I do agree that she is a little more powerful than me, even at that age." She looked at me and smiled, and I could tell that she was proud of me and of the accomplishments that I had achieved even at a young age.
I looked down and blushed, not able to meet their gazes any longer. My heart was full of pride, and I was happy that I pleased both my mother and Michael, two great and powerful people that I knew. I had no idea what I needed to say or do, so I stood there with my hands behind my back, feeling bashful.
Ruckur chuckled. Ask them if this is where the bodies are located, he said, changing the subject. That is something you can do, he teased.
I mentally rolled my eyes and scowled. Very funny, I said, earning another chuckle from him. I cleared my throat and licked my lips, tasting a small bit of blood, while I looked at both Michael and my mother. "Is this the room where the bodies are located?" I asked. "Ruckur wants to know."
"It is," my mother confirmed. She nodded and cleared her throat before she licked her lips. "Come on," she said and gestured for me to follow her. "I'll take you to where they are located. Do you know what you need to be looking for?" she asked and started to walk in the direction that the bodies were located.
I shrugged and followed her, with Michael trailing behind me, while I stuffed my hands into my pockets because I had no idea what to do with my hands. "I don't know," I replied, honestly. I shrugged again and waited for Ruckur to say something, but he didn't. "I don't think Ruckur knows either. If he does, then he is being quiet about it."
Mom nodded and stayed silent. Worry filled her eyes, and I couldn't help but wonder what she thought that had her become quiet.
Did she think that he didn't know what he was looking for? Did she know what he needed to look for and wasn't telling us? What was she thinking?
I know what we are looking for, Ruckur said. I have a hunch as to what I will see, but I want to make sure. He cleared his throat. If it is what I think it is, then I'm going to need both Michael and your mother to leave the room.
Why not me? I asked. I furrowed my brows and cocked my head. Why won't you ask me to leave the room if they are what you think that they are?
You're under my protection, he replied. Nothing will happen to you. I'll make sure of that. There was a promise in his voice, and I bit my lip because I had no idea what he could or couldn't do.
All I knew was that I would be safe, and nothing bad would fall on me. However, how would he make sure of that? He was just a voice inside my head that could read my thoughts. But was there something else that I had no idea about him, especially since I was the second Director that he was in the head of? Could he do something more as a way to make sure that I was safe?
If so, what?
