POPE MARVELED AT HIS SURROUNDINGS. "i've stayed here so many times, but i've never seen this door opened before."

"mm." kie hummed in agreement.

"here. look." john b brought out a board filled with pictures and labels pertaining to the compass.

"1880 to 1920. that's a lucky compass right there." kie pointed at a man wearing some old type of uniform, with the compass attached onto his hip.

"actually, um... he was shot after he bought it." john b corrected. "then the compass was shipped back to henry," then pointed at another man wearing overalls. "he was killed in a crop-dusting accident when he had the compass. after he died, the compass was given to stephen." then a WWI soldier. "stephen had the compass with him when he died in vietnam."

"let me guess, he died in action, right?" jj poked in.

"sort of... uh, a–actually, he was killed by a banana truck. i–in country." john b stammered as he realized he had the very same compass that killed all these men right in his hands. "anyways, after that, stephen passed the compass down to him, my dad." he pointed at a picture of his father with little john b beside him.

"hm, sounds like there's a reaccuring theme here."

"yeah, um, you have a death compass." pope concluded.

"no, i so do not."

"cool." you muttered under your breath.

"you have a death compass."

"get rid of it." jj shook his head. "it's cursed and it made its way back to you."

"look, my dad used to talk about this compartment in here." john b sat down and began removing a part of the compass. "soldiers used to hide secret notes."

"what's that?" kie asked as john b uncovered an engraved text on the compass.

john b recognized, "this is my dad's handwriting."

"how can you know that?" pope raised his brow.

"because he does these weird r's with the– see it?" john b tried to convince.

"can i see?" jj asked, reaching for the compass."red– rout–" he took a closer look at it and tried to read the text. "no, i think it's an a..."

"redfield." you solved.

"redfield?"

"yeah, see." you traced the letters with your finger tips. "spells redfield."

"oh." jj got it.

you were usually either cute or beautiful, but this time, he thought your quick-thinking was so sexy. honestly. it made him have a hard o–

jj shook his head, snapping out of it. what was he thinking right now? he should focus on helping his friend, for christ's sake!
