When he no longer felt the subtle pull of the Darkhold upon his being, Dr (Y/N) (L/N) leaped from his perch, landing just behind the police barrier. A tall police officer stood before him, his back turned. 'I need to get through,' (Y/N) told him sharply.

The officer turned around, glaring down at him from beneath the visor of his cap. 'Oh, it's you...' said the copper, folding his arms over his chest.

(Y/N) recognised him from Rictor's wedding, 'you're the bloke who shat himself,' he said with a smirk, attempting to duck under the barrier.

'No unauthorised personnel allowed passed the barrier,' the man said, taking hold of the back of his collar and pulling him out from under the barrier.

'My boyfriend's in there,' (Y/N) told him plainly, once more trying to duck under the barrier, but again being pulled out from beneath it.

        'And your boyfriend is?'

'James Barnes - Captain America,' (Y/N) smiled proudly, despite how strange it felt to say his boyfriend was Captain America. 'You might remember him actually, he's the one who almost choked you out the last time you laid a hand on me.'

The officer went quiet now, his jaw tensing as he crossed his arms over his chest and took a step closer to the barrier. 'You're not getting through,' he said seriously.

'Watch me,' said (Y/N), attempting to jump the barrier this time, only to be tackled to the ground and pinned down by the officer. 'Oi, let go!' he exclaimed, garnering the attention of another policeman.

'Smith, what the hell do you think you're doing?' (Y/N) heard a familiar voice ask as he struggled beneath the restraint.

'He was trying to cross the barrier,' replied Smith, the chain of his handcuffs rattling as he tried to place them around (Y/N)'s wrists.

        'Rictor?' (Y/N) asked.

'Let him go, Smith,' Rictor commanded, 'go patrol the east side.'

Smith grunted, pushing down on (Y/N) (L/N)'s back as he stood up, causing his face to smash into the asphalt. 'Aye jog on shitey arse,' shouted (Y/N), struggling to pick himself up with the use of only one arm.

Two hands guided him to his feet. 'You really shouldn't be here,' Rictor said, pressing a handkerchief to (Y/N)'s bloody nose and straightening his jacket, 'come on, I'll have someone take you home.' He turned to walk away, seemingly expecting (Y/N) (L/N) to simply follow him. When he didn't, Rictor turned to face him. 'Come on,' he said.

'Bucky's in there,' replied (Y/N) plainly, 'I'm not leaving him.'

His ex-fiance groaned audibly, 'Barnes can handle himself,' he said, beginning to walk away with the expectation that (Y/N would follow.

'And I can't?' (Y/N) asked him loudly, standing firmly in his place.

Julio Richter stopped walking away, instead he turned and walked towards him, his stern features contorted in frustration. 'Clearly not,' he yelled quietly so only the two of them could hear. 'You narrowly escaped the Maximoff anomaly, and then you go and break your arm doing fuck knows what - and now you're trying to run into a situation which could get you killed!' Rictor let out a loud sigh, 'no. C'mon, I'm taking you home.' He took hold of (Y/N)'s working wrist, attempting to drag him towards the closest cruiser.

(Y/N) (L/N) tried to snatch his arm away, 'fuck off, Rictor,' he spat, 'as if you wouldn't do the same for Ben. As if Ben wouldn't do the same for you!'
