"So, what's your cursed technique?" asked Yuji.
After having their first day of class with Ankoku, the trio of first years invited her to get sodas.
Yuji and Nobara excitedly asked the newcomer questions, while Megumi stood close by, sipping a cola and pretending to not be interested.
"I'm a Rikai Sorcerer. Don't know if you've heard of i-"
"WHAT?!" Nobara exclaimed, and Yuji seemed confused.
"Could someone explain? Gojo-sensei didn't tell me what that means yet-"
"That's one of the most powerful techniques" Megumi said, unable to keep the surprise from his voice. "It's said that the last person who had it defeated both the Six Eyes and the Ten Shadows users of their time. But it's very rare," he took another sip of his soda.
Is this girl really that powerful? She has a lot of cursed energy, but does she have the potential to beat Gojo? - Megumi wondered.
"It's more of a nuisance than a blessing," Ankoku said, putting on sunglasses.
"What do you mean? It sounds amazing!" Yuji said "I wish I had a cursed technique..."
Ankoku shook her head, smiling slightly.
She had the unmistakable air of being bored.
"You don't want this technique. It's Six Eyes and Infinity brought up to a thousand percent" she said, leaning on a wall.
She spun a pencil between her fingers in one hand, holding an empty can in the other.
"I can sense, hear and see... everything..." she said, an ominous look coming over her eyes. "...and I can control cursed energy, as well as other people's cursed techniques. Unlike Satoru Gojo, I can't control space itself, infinity isn't possible when you're a Rikai sorcerer. However..."
Suddenly she made the pen she was holding levitate. Her three peers looked in amazement and shock as the pen floated in midair, only supported by Ankoku's mind.
"I can't control objects like Gojo-Sensei can, but I can control cursed energy. If I infuse an object with cursed energy, I can control it. It's a draining tactic, but it works."
She made the pen drop, catching it swiftly.
"There are many other ways my technique could be used, but I haven't attempted that many. It's not like I have a handbook, the last person with my powers was around during the Heian Era..." she said, drifting off into thought.
Yuji snapped out of his thoughts. She had died four days ago. Gojo had told him to not beat himself up over what Sukuna had done, but Yuji couldn't help it.
He looked out the window of his bedroom, watching the sunrise.
"Still sulking?" he heard a growling voice in his head.
"Shut up..." he whispered.
"Ooo, moody... it's not like you, brat."
Yuji closed his eyes, running a hand through his pink hair.
He shared memories with Sukuna, which meant he remembered murdering one of his best friends.
"Why did you do it?" he muttered, feeling his eyes start to water.
"Why?" Sukuna asked, thinking, "You wouldn't understand, brat. She has the potential to become the strongest in history."
"Had..." Yuji said, his voice cracking.
"Mhm."
If the girl was anywhere as strong as the Rikai from my time, she isn't gone. I needed to test her powers. If she truly is gone, she wasn't worth the powers she possesed. Sukuna thought.
Meanwhile, Ankoku spoke to the man who had introduced himself as Kenjaku.
Her powers were still acting up, she felt like her head was buzzing, she had a harder time processing all of the information her senses gave her.
"Let me get this straight, you're saying that when Sukuna took over Yuji's body in our mission in the Eishu Detention Centre, I..."
"Died, yes." the man with stitches on his head confirmed. "It's been four days. The people at Jujutsu High consider you dead, still. They made no effort to bring you back." he smiled sadly at the girl. "But I knew you wouldn't go down easily. Mahito here helped stable your soul, and... well, you're here."
Ankoku looked at the blue-haired curse he referenced.
"I still don't understand how you managed to touch my soul..." he spoke, looking at the girl with interest.
Ankoku thought back, trying to make sense of the buzzing in her head.
"You're a cursed spirit, aren't you?" she asked, closing her eyes, trying to analyse his cursed energy.
He nodded enthusiastically, and she could see it, even having her eyes closed.
"In that case it's obvious," she said, with a soft chuckle "I can see and control cursed energy, even when it's outside my body. I also have slight control over other people's cursed techniques. I suppose that also applies to curses, who rely on their cursed energy to survive"
Mahito flat-out laughed at that.
"Oh, finally! A worthy opponent! It's too bad we're fighting for the same side..."
"What do you mean, fighting... you aren't..."
Suddenly she remembered something Gojo had told her. The first time she'd met him, he told her that she reminded him of his old friend, who'd gone over to the wrong side. Come to think of it, she'd done her hair up exactly the way Kenjaku had it right now...
"We are simply opposed to the way sorcerers treat everyone around them." Kenjaku started, with a noticeable air of choosing his words carefully. "Do you know why Sukuna was given the opportunity to kill you in the first place?"
Ankoku shook her head.
"The higher-ups gave that difficult mission to the first years, in hope of killing either Yuji Itadori or you."
"Yes, but..." the cogs in Ankoku's head started turning "...Yuji makes sense. They're scared of Sukuna, and want his vessel to die. But why me?"
"She doesn't know," said another curse, coming into the room. He was a cyclops, with what looked like a volcano on his head.
"Ankoku," Kenjaku took a step towards the girl "You are something the higher-ups are afraid of. You have the potential to become the strongest, your powers easily exceeding even Satoru Gojo's. The source of your power comes from a half-human, half-curse, who was born hundreds of years ago. Naturally, the old sorcerers are scared. But we..." he smiled sweetly "...we're who you're meant to be with. You were only ever thought of as a weapon, as something to be used, or to be disposed of. With us, you'll be able to thrive!"
Ankoku's eyes went wide, peering into the stranger's face.
She'd felt something like that. She always felt like a weapon for jujutsu society. She'd tried to hide, only to be tracked down by Kento Nanami.
"We're not forcing you into anything, you're free to go back. But you will be so much more welcome among curses, such as the one your powers come from."
There was a pause. Ankoku's powers had pretty much gone back to normal, so that she could hear Kenjaku's quickened heart beat. He was clearly desperate for her to stay with them, even if he tried to hide it.
"Let's create a new golden age of Jujutsu Sorcery together" he said, stretching out a hand.
She'd always been a tool.
Her entire life revolved around the powers she was given. She would never be able to live out a normal life, she was doomed if she even tried.
So, why not try and be something greater?
Along with the special-grade curses, she'd be able to become something more than a weapon. Something much, much worse.
Her purple eyes looking down Kenjaku's soul, she took his hand.
