"Arrgh!" Benjamin groaned as he fell on his bed. He's been trying almost all his clothes to find the one that is suitable for his outing with his friends. His one-room apartment is a mess due to this, he's on the verge of bailing out on his friends but he couldn't.He could barely count the number of his friends he had since he left the orphanage when he came of age. Not that he could not reject their offer but he felt the need to open up his heart to them, not everyone you meet is nice to you on your first encounter. Most important of all he felt grateful to them and happy.
Benjamin's phone vibrated, he noticed it was a text from Tobi asking where he could pick him up. Benjamin didn't want anyone to know his home address and decided to send the address of a saloon a few blocks before his.
He knew he had to hurry up his preparations, so he then settled for a green shirt, black jeans and matching sneakers. Taking a good look at himself in the mirror, he was looking good. He grabbed his keys wallet and phone and left.
On arriving at the saloon he noticed a blue sedan parked by the side of the road with Tobi waving him over.
"Sup, looking good." Tobi complimented Benjamin who was a bit shy.
"You look great yourself. Nice car.
"Yeah I know right, it's Samson's and I couldn't trust him to pick you up since he might have taken more alcoholic drinks before our actual chilling. Tobi explained.
"Oh," Benjamin responded nodding.
"But what's confusing me now is why here?" Tobi asked using his hands to point at the saloon.
"You mean..." Benjamin said trying to process what he was saying.
"I mean, why did you ask me to pick you up at the front of a saloon, I don't mind coming to you home no matter the distance."
"I-uhm where I'm living has no parking space that's why I chose here. Benjamin says deciding to settle for half-truth though it's not convincing enough. Tobi being smart knew something was up but pushed it aside.
"No problem, let's go those two are already busting my phone with texts, so impatient," Tobi says as they both enter and drive off.
They stopped a little at a big gate for a security check with Tobi explaining that this was the main entrance to the place. Benjamin has never been to places like this, he only saw them in movies. And he was awed, he didn't know his friend Samson was this loaded. His insecurities started to kick in, and he was happy he didn't Tobi had not seen his home because compared to all this. It was nothing.
"This is Royalville Estate. It's a place where you know wealthy people stay, plus their security is tight. As the saying goes 'big man big problem'." Tobi grinned making Benjamin chuckle and nod in understanding.
They arrived at another gate which was smaller than the 1st one they passed through.
"We're here" Tobi said turning off the engine but still in the car. He took a glance at Benjamin and noticed the uncomfortable shift he was making in his seat. "Bro just chill, we just want to hang out and do a few things together. You know as friends". He smiles reassuringly at him.
"Plus I'll be on the lookout for you". He smirks as he tries to get out of the car only for Benjamin to pull him back giving a confused look.
"Be on the lookout? He repeated ."Why would you want to be on the lookout for me? I mean it's just the four of us, right? He questioned him looking more distressed.
"You go know why".
"What!" Benjamin exclaimed before Tobi started laughing at him.
"Sorry, I'm just messing with you. I never knew you'd react like this. But there's nothing to worry about." Tobi smiles at him but Benjamin notices something mischievous in his eyes.
"Come on we can't chill out in the car. It's going to be fun". Tobi said stepping out of the car followed by Benjamin. Just then Onyinye came out running with a bottle of beer in her hands with Samson chasing after her, she then noticed Tobi and Benjamin's arrival.
"Hey, Ben! Help me!" she said running to his side to take cover from Samson's pursuit. "You look good".
" Hey, you made it". Samson smiled at him.
Benjamin just whispered a little 'hey' back but stiffened when Onyinye grabbed his arms from his back to prevent Samson from taking the bottle from her. Since Benjamin was a few inches taller than him.
"Well I guess I don't deserve a little 'hey' or 'you look good' or at least a thank you from you guys". Tobi said with a frown folding his arms.
"What are you now a child who needs praise after doing little things". Samson mocked him still trying to grab hold of the bottle Onyinye was holding.
"And why should we thank you?Tobi rolled his eyes at him. "You Samson the one who planned out to pick Benjamin but when I noticed how tipsy you sounded from the phone call, I had to volunteer to do that so you wouldn't get Benjamin or yourself arrested or worse killed". He explained making Onyinye and Benjamin laugh.
"What's funny?" Tobi and Samson both asked. Benjamin just shook his head while Onyinye kept laughing.
When Benjamin couldn't take being continuously turned by Onyinye he threw Tobi a pleading look asking for help.
"Onyinye let go of him and you guys should stop fooling around. And why are you guys running around with a bottle of half-drunk alcohol? Tobi asked.
"I'll tell you if you tell Samson to back off."
"You're the one that needs to back off. When after snatching my drink from me". Samson protested.
"Liar I just opened the bottle and you took it from me drinking it. I just did the right thing by taking it back." Onyinye argued.
"Okay, okay let me have the bottle Onyinye," Tobi said approaching her before she could take off he took it Immediately making her groan. "Now, guys let's chill out as planned rather than arguing over a bottle besides there's more inside."
"Fine!" Onyinye exclaimed pulling Benjamin towards the house entrance. With the rest behind.
