We arrived in Wakanda, making it past a cloaking mechanism that hid what it truly was. A wealthy, high-tech palace. We landed and met the king, king T'Challa, and Banner bowed to him when Rhody said that he should, which made me shake my head.
We walked toward the palace, Rogers and king T'Challa talking.
"How big of an assault should we expect?" King T'Challa asked as we headed into the palace.
"Uh, sir," Banner said. "I think you should expect quite a big assault."
I rolled my eyes, and we all came to a stop as a man with shoulder-length brown hair walked up, grinning at Steve. He had a metal arm and seemed wary of having to fight. Apparently, he was a hundred years old.
We went inside the palace and to Shuri's lab, where Vision laid down on a floating stretcher so that she could scan the stone in his head. She and Banner had a small conversation about science stuff I think, and she said she needed all the time we could give her, which meant she would need a lot of time.
But something entered the atmosphere, of course, and I was the first to head out the door and back outside to see where the ships were. I bumped into the other guy we'd met upon our arrival, whose name was Bucky if I was correct.
"So..." he said, trying to break the awkward silence. "How'd you get roped into all this?"
"Thanos murdered half my people and my brothers," I told him shortly. "I'm Asgardian, though I understand if you mortal don't understand-"
"I understand, princess," he said, annoyed. "You're high and mighty." We went a long moment in silence. "I'm sorry about your people. And brothers."
Before I could respond, the Avengers except Wanda and Vision came out with king T'Challa. A missile launched at us and I flinched, ready to try and shield it with ice, but a force field protected us instead.
"I love this place," both Bucky and I said at the same time.
We glanced at each other then followed people as they made their way onto a grass field. Soldiers all got in battle lines and waited for the rest of the Avengers and T'Challa to show up. I stood next to Bucky, subconsciously tapping my hand against my thigh anxiously.
A bunch of creatures started sprinting from the woods as soon as they came back from talking to the aliens through the force field. My jaw dropped as they hit the force field and continued, killing and separating themselves in half just to get through.
T'Challa eventually had to open the barrier as they began to circle round it, and the shield-blankets the warriors were holding were taken down like dominoes as they prepared to fight. In a blur, everyone started running to meet the vicious creatures.
For some reason I kept close to Bucky, creating icicles and flinging them from creature to creature. I gathered coldness from as much of the air I could, but there wasn't much to work with, so I gathered ice water from particles and puddles, drowning the creatures.
I switched from drowning to freeze to icicle flinging. I was in a violent rage from grief, I didn't care how or who I killed at the moment. All that mattered was sending an icicle through Thano's head, no matter what.
Then the Bifrost landed in the middle of the field, catching me off guard. Heimdal was dead. Asgard was gone. Who was creating the Bifrost? My confusion turned to shock as I saw a large axe come swinging out, lightening flickering off it.
The Bifrost cleared and Thor appeared, with a raccoon holding a gun on his shoulder and a human tree.
"Thor!" I cried.
Bucky looked at me. "You're taken?" I couldn't tell if there was disappointment, jealousy, or surprise in his voice.
I raised an eyebrow at him, smirking a little. "He's my brother."
"Oh."
"BRING. ME. THANOS!" Thor yelled, jumping into the sky and swarming with lightening, turning everything dark as he landed on the ground and brough down a whole circle of creatures with one strike.
A dangerous, hopeful though crossed my mind: If Thor was alive, Loki could be too, right?
