"Mom!" his little voice asked. "Will you and dad tell me a story?"

His father and I walked into the room and I smiled. "Of course. And I have the perfect story. It has Kings and Queens , Princes and Princess's."

"It starts like this.

"A long time ago, before I was born, there were two young girls named Amalya and Jennelyn Hudson. Amalya was eighteen, and Jennelyn was sixteen. Amalya had always been a very pretty girl and everyone loved her. She just didn't know what true love was, until she met Keenan Rowan. Keenan was a boy who transferred to her school, and she could tell there was something different about him. And there was. Keenan was a faerie prince, first in line to the Summer Court throne.

Despite the fact that she was human, and he was not, Amalya still loved him. When she made the choice to stay with him, she began to become what he was. Because of what she was becoming, she couldn't stay with her family, leaving her sister behind. The warm July night she left, she wrote a letter and left it on Jennelyn's pillow.

The letter went something like this:

Dear Jennelyn,

I am leaving with Keenan, and I wont be coming back. It breaks my heart to do this, and I will always love you, but it isn't safe for us to be here anymore. Keenan is not human, and I am no longer human either. I know you will be confused, but this is for the best and for your safety. I wish things were different, but they aren't. I know I'll be truly happy where I am going, and I hope you'll respect my decision. In case you're confused about the whole not human thing, I am a faerie. So is Keenan and any children I may have will be faeries.

Love,

Amalya.

Amalya leaned down and kissed her sisters forehead then disappeared out the window. Soon after, Jennelyn woke. She felt something pressing against her face and looked at the pillow, finding her sister note. After reading it, she curled herself into a ball and cried, clutching the letter to her chest. When she was finally done, all the sadness was gone. In its place was anger, the need for revenge almost consumed her. Then she heard a knock at the window. It was a young girl, she looked about twelve.

"If its revenge on Keenan you want," The girl said with a voice like bells, "I can help you."

"Who are you?" Jennelyn asked and inched towards the window.

"I'm Donia, and you need my help."

Four years later, King Keenan and Queen Amalya presented their new born daughter to the world. Princess Sayre Jade Rowan was all anyone in the Summer Court could talk about. They were always buzzing about how beautiful the girl was, and Keenan and Amalya didn't stop smiling for six months. After that, there was only sorrow.

One the eve of December nineteenth, exactly six months after she was born, someone stole Sayre from her cradle, leaving behind shocked and frantic faeries in search of comfort and finding none.

King Keenan sent all his best knights out to search. One after another they left to find Princess Sayre, and they all returned empty handed. The summer court went into a deep depression, one they couldn't find their way out of.

Donia watched from the shadows, awaiting the day when Keenan and Amalya would be weak enough for her to attack. From her position, she was able to spot Meliorn, Keenan's younger brother. Meliorn was the type that you would trust right off the bat. He was Keenan's advisor but, unknown to Keenan, he resented the king. Keenan had everything. The beautiful girl, the sweet daughter, and the crown. He was always second place compared to Keenan and when Donia had approached him about taking revenge on Keenan, Meliorn had only been slightly hesitant. Once Sayre was born and his only shot at becoming king was gone, he made up his mind. And he had the perfect plan.

But now, years after he watched Jennelyn and Donia disappear into the night with the Princess, he felt crushing guilt. He wanted to tell Keenan about what he had done, but this offence would either get him death or banishment. If Keenan killed him, it would destroy Keenan. If he banished Meliorn, Donia would kill him. There was no way but to keep silent.

Year after year, men went in search of the princess, and time and time again, they returned with results. Finally, fifteen and a half years later, a young knight came into the castle, requesting an audience with the king.

"Your majesty, my father has trained me almost from birth for this. He had tried and failed many times, but I assure you I will not."

"Your father is the best man I've met." Keenan murmured. "Will Redfern, are you prepared for this task and swear that she will be back before months end?"

"I swear it will be done."

With that, will left and set off into New York City. Searching for the girl who would save the kingdom
