Somehow We Don't Blow Up

Sam POV

I heard their voices echo through my mind as they shook me aggressively, panicking as blood rolled down the side of my head. They pushed large chunks of rubble off my arms and legs, scared that I was hurt beyond help.

They all rushed to my side full of panic and fear as I lay unmoving in the rubble. I hear the loud familiar voice of Anika, yelling in my ear "WAKE THE HELL UP YOU FUNKY GAY PERSON"

Charlie was the next to speak, filling in the silence she said, "is she dead?" Instantly, my eyes snap open, and I point a finger at Charlie, and say "It's they, bitch"

As soon as I speak, Camila yells out, she's always so easy to scare. I cackle slightly and sit up. I wince as I do, my ribs feel like they're in shreds. Anika stopped me before I could fully sit up, saying "Unless you wanna die, lay your ass back down"

I raised my eyebrows, smirking as she said that. She just rolled her eyes and told me to shut up. It was only now that I was aware of my surroundings, and I think the same rule applies to the others too.

It was...horrifying. How did this happen?!

We were sitting at the bench where we always sat and talked at lunch and recess, making dirty jokes and roasting each other. Our favorite thing to do. So, we were talking and chilling, when a very loud, strange alarm suddenly sounded.

We couldn't tell where it was coming from or why it had sounded, but it caused a great big panic. People were surrounding the teachers, wanting an explanation for a loud ringing. But the teachers had no answer to give.

In the end, the teachers just told everyone that it must have been the construction that takes place near our school. And so everyone just went back to their business.

For five minutes, the alarm rang. RING 4.59. RING 4.58. RING 4.57. RING 4.56. I started to feel a bit uncomfortable. There was a strange echo to the alarm, and from their expressions, I could tell my friends felt it too.

RING 0.3. RING 0.2 RING 0.1- BEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

At last, the five minutes passed, and the ringing stopped. But what came next, no one expected. It started with the ground shaking like crazy. I looked at Anika, Charlie and Camila with confusion and a little bit of fear. Since I'm too lazy to figure it out myself, I wait for them to explain the situation.

They're probably about to tell me that it's an earthquake, at least, Anika and Charlie will. Camila would just say that The Dark Lord is coming back to life or something.

But before any of them get a chance to explain their reasoning, The people around us start to blow up. Now, it's not like a fiery explosion, but their bodies just self-destructed, blood exploding everywhere. People watched as their best friends and family turned into a big puddle of blood and guts, before feeling the excruciating pain themselves.

We could do nothing but watch. I had to watch my own sister, who had been sitting at a nearby table, explode in blood as her eyes met mine. It was...beyond horrifying. The air was filled with blood curdling, piercing screams of high school students as they met a painful end. I squeezed my eyes, not wanting to watch.

The shaking and vibration increased intensely and the ceiling began to aggressively shake. I could tell that it was about to fall, but Anika, Camila and Charlie were still staring in horror at all the students and teachers dying on the spot.

I knew that the ceiling was about to fall, crushing all of us.

Just before I warn my friends of the falling ceiling, I stop. "We're all gonna blow up anyway. Why should it matter if pieces of rubble fall on us" And so, after we all flip each other off one last time, I close my eyes and wait for death, while Camila starts hyperventilating.

But it doesn't come. Instead, the ceiling became dangerously close to falling. If we don't blow up, the rubble will definitely smash us to pieces in a second. If my friends can survive this, I'll make sure they do.

Just as the ceiling started to fall, I shoved my friends one by one out of the way so that they would be ok. I turn away from them, glad that they can't see my expression, because if they did, they would be horrified, and not understand, and I didn't want our friendship to end like that.

They desperately call me over, since the pillars are about to collapse, dropping onto me, but I don't move. The shaking intensifies, and I start to feel quite dizzy. I stumble a little, and slip on the bloody pile of somebody who had been sitting nearby. I fall onto my back, I watch a huge piece of rubble fall towards me.

I take one last look at Camila, Charlie and Ankia, they're all unconscious from the intense vibrations and the sound-waves. I close my eyes as the rubble lands on me. "At least it'll be over quickly."

And then, as you can probably guess, everything went dark.

Now

We looked around at our surroundings. Puddles of blood splattered all over the floor, walls and trees. "What. The. Fuck. Just. Happened" Camila said. No one said anything in response, since no one had an answer to give. "HOW the hell does this even happen??? And...how did we survive it" Charlie asked.

Anika gave a suggestion, her voice still a bit shaky. "We look around for other...survivors." It was agreed, especially since Charlie, Camila and Anika didn't know where their siblings were, and wanted to make sure they were ok.

Since Sam had seen their sister's agonizing face as her body popped open like a pimple, they knew that there was no point looking for her, but they didn't tell the others this, because they didn't want to break their spirits, and wanted to make sure they still had hope.

With the help from their friends, Sam managed to stand up, and could walk ok. Their injuries weren't as severe as they had seemed, and Sam could walk around on their own just fine.

So, with tears in their eyes, everyone split up, with the desperate wish that their siblings, or at least someone else was ok.

Sam didn't want to see the pile of blood and bones that used to be their sister, So instead, Sam marched to the furthest part of the school, and walked into the bathroom. They were now out of earshot of the others.

Sam let the most pain, regret and anger filled scream out, lasting for at least seven seconds. "why...Why... WHY. WHY IS IT THAT I SURVIVED?? DOES GOD TRULY HATE ME SO MUCH THAT HE WOULD DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I ASK?! WHAT THE HELL HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE SO MUCH PAIN. ALL I WANTED WAS TO-"

Sam's throat suddenly got extremely dry and hoarse, and they couldn't keep yelling. Tears dripped down their face like water drops. They continued to walk to themself, but now only in a whisper. "I have to remember what I promised myself a few months ago. My only priority is my friends. So I need to go and help them get through this, no matter what pain I may be feeling. Physical or metal."

So, Sam marched back to their friends, who were still desperately searching. Even though it was no use. Sam looked around. How did this even happen? And how many people did it kill?
